Tescos shopping for 1

there are shops that are local to me of course, the kind you mention (one spar, one tesco express) but they are not the kind of local shop tobruk was talking about, who will deliver to regular customers. All the local butchers shops closed, the last one left closed two years ago. The local bakery closed more than three years ago. The local greengrocer that would deliver closed about two years ago...
Isn't Tesco Express one of the smaller Tesco outlets, which don't do Tesco value stuff?Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Yes they are the smaller Tesco's. Our local Tesco Express does some Value items, but their choice - of everything, not just Value - is woefully poor.Isn't Tesco Express one of the smaller Tesco outlets, which don't do Tesco value stuff?
I get my DH to take me to Morrison's when he's on early shift, as he works from home on those days; makes food shopping "interesting" as he doesn't have a regular rota for his shifts, it's worked out a month at a time, depending on who's in the office/on project work vs support work/a whole load of other considerations. (Which reminds me, I must do a list for his next early shift day, next Tuesday....):DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

If you used a car, or public transport, there will be costs involved such as bus fares, petrol, insurance and time.
Shopping is such a chore, we load the trolley, we unload it at the checkout, load it back in to the trolley, and take it home to unload it again and put to it away.
For your small delivery charge, and off peak times is cheaper, I've just paid £3.50 for between 8 and 10 pm, someone else can have all the hassle, and it can be delivered to your kitchen.
I can't do it for myself any cheaper.

Totally agree, I have many things wrong with me that limit what I can do in life (arthritis, fibromyalgia, depression to name but a few) but I would never expect to get free delivery from Tesco because of this. I understand living on a low income isn't great and you need to make savings wherever possible but I just don't agree this is, or should be one of them to be honest as they'd only put the price of food etc up to cover for the extra expense.
It's the same as any online shop, if there's a delivery charge then there's a delivery charge and everybody pays it, regardless of their abilities. It's not that much anyway, you can get it for about £3 if you're flexible with time and day (just be organised) which is less than a taxi there and back for me (also because of my disability) so it's a win win as I don't even have to hurt myself going around the store or motivating myself to actually get ready and go out which hurts in itself... all by doing it online. For £3 this is a total bargain to me.
Also this is what your DLA is for, to help you with the extra costs of living with a disability.:o xxLost lbs =

Yes. It's more expensive and has a very limited stock. But it is more or less all there is now in my nearest shopping street! (The only food shop left.)

though that is what DLA is for, to be used as we wish, difficulty with shopping is officially not what DLA is for, when I first applied I put it down and they just struck right through it.0 -
You can still use it for shopping though.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

DLA can be used for anything that will make your life easier and help you have a better quality of life. Paying for deliveries is definitely one of those things that makes life easier.0

I agree, and being able to use it for anything is a very good thing about it. But it's in fact given in recognition of other needs, needs other than shopping needs, and coping with those costs money too.
I've spent a fair amount I needn't have spent if I weren't disabled, both before and after I got DLA (which they gave me, on my second application, on an indefinite basis). So though I can afford delivery charges I am sympathetic to the OP's question.0 -
I discovered last week that as well as doing 2 hour time slots, Asda do 8 hour ones (10-6 or 12-8) for just £2. One the delivery time box, there is a tab at the top that says 8hour, which shows them. As I can't get out alone, I am generally in all day anyway, so it works out well for me!Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0

I do agree with what people are saying, but not everyone who is disabled gets DLA. I'm in a wheelchair most of the time, need care day and night, but just keep getting turned down for DLA. So some people get nothing at all to help with the extra costs of being disabled.
Codes for getting free delivery seem to have tapered out, but I still see it as a godsend to get it delivered."There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0
