Restaurant didn't charge Credit Card

  • The restaurant may have accidently just taken an 'authorization' which basically means just reserving the money on the card without actually debiting it. I would have thought Amex would have been able to see this though. Places like hotels do this when you check in but only settle the bill when you leave.

    The reciept will also say "pre-authorisation" on the top. Mine always do in this circumstance.

    Which is my point. Authorisation code doesnt always mean the funds have been cleared and given to them.

    No but it means that they can present the auth code for payment and be paid regardless of the funds being in the account or not.
