Restaurant didn't charge Credit Card

I went to a restaurant last week and paid by Amex Charge Card and got a receipt to say the payment had gone through and the credit card slip clearly states that it was authorized and even gives a Auth number, however it hasn't appeared on my bill and the restaurant called me today, to say that the charge didn't go through.
What should I do?
I paid in good faith and have a receipt to prove it, however where do I stand legally, do I need to pay them again or is it up to the restaurant to take it up with their bank?
Any Help would be good

as above ring amex to see what the issue is. I would probably contact the resturant straight after to say what amix are doing out of curtesy.0

You cant get an authorization number unless funds have been authorized and available.
So i would contact card issuer and get them to check with the department who deals with card processing to check it over.0 -

I've spoken to Amex and they say there is definitely no charges on the account.
I do intend to pay the restaurant as that is only fair, however don't want them to charge me twice as Amex are a pain in the neck to get money back off them due to it being a Charge Card.
Should I contact the restaurant and tell them I am going to wait until the end of the month when I get my statement, just to be one the safe side?0 -

Not so sure about that. I can buy something with a debit card of mine with no funds available and THEN transfer the money into that account (i dont keep cash in it and only transfer in enough for what i'm buying) and i've received authorisation codes even with £0 balance and no overdraft.

Funds being available to the person presenting the authorisation code is not the same as funds being available for you to withdraw.
It's perfectly possible to obtain a valid authorisation code for a debit card when the bank account behind it has £0 balance.0 -
