Barclaycard application

They are obliged to tell you why this has happened.
Had similar problems myself with Barclaycard applications..

They could assume it was approved and he didn't go for it, but if he is still applying for Credit...

I was always under the impression that lenders only see credit card as posed to the actual company name, (Barclaycard in this case). Infact I'm pretty sure that's the case. So they wouldn't know you've been declined by Barclaycard.

Exactly, they won't see the name of the company who did the search just what type of search it was, and they won't see the names of the companies already listed under the credit accounts section of his credit file. Just the type of account.

And it's breach of DPA for a creditor to "assume" or "read between the lines" in credit analysis systems.
