Can anyone lend me a cup of milk?

When we were kids it was normal practise for the neighbours to come around with a cup - 'to borrow a cup of sugar' or 'cup of milk, flour or whatever'. There was no shame and this 'loan' would be paid back in kind.
How would we manage now, when most of us are trying to hide our situation from the neighbours?

Looking good for a no spend day today.

Did a decent sized shop yesterday (reminds me I must update my signature) so plenty of food in the house, and still ok for bread and milk.

The car is running desperately low on engine oil - I've never known a car like it for drinking the stuff , but came in on the train today (I have a free pass through my work) so it can wait until tomorrow.

The only danger to my no spend day is that I'm at work til 10. I've brought some food with me for tea, but I'm starving already, and if i eat now I'll need something later on. Going to have an apple and hope that ties me over til about 6.30.

How's this for moneysaving - I was going to drive to Lakeside to spend some of my Vouchers in Next - but if I did that I would need to put petrol on my credit card. So I'm going to stay in and watch the football on TV instead.

I'm going to need to spend the money on a full tank soon, but since I';m off on holiday tomorrow I wont need to refuel until monday at the earliest, and with me starting a new job in the City I'm not going to be driving - so I'm putting off the petrol spend by 10 days!
  • Woah! today has been somewhat of an unexpectedly expensive day . This morning I was sitting in the car waiting to take DD to school with two of her friends, she was putting her shoes on and when she came out and locked the door she posted the key back through the lock!!!!!!!!! ( usually I am in the shower getting ready for work and this is what we do). All I had was the car key, no money, no phone - luckily one of the friends' dads was still at home so we rang a locksmith who came at 10:10. I had sat in our back garden for an hour and a half! He tried to pick the lock but no luck, so it had to be a new lock - £65!
    Then I did a shop at Sainsbury's - £20

well i'm afraid today had hidden expenses for me too. i fell victim to a bad case of the munchies and bought crisps at work 47p. plus my uniform finally arrived so i had to stop in primark to buy navy trousers, it's a skirt thats supplied and has a higer waistband than simon cowell  , couldn't be a$$ed trying them on so picked up two sizes but one will go back, probably tomorrow before work, so actual spend is £5.47

All had been going well, I walked the 40m mins to work again, stayed in at lunch to avaoid spending. But after work I had to stop to buy a dumpling mix from the co-op for 55p and succumbed to some cake bars that were on offer for 89p. Wish I hadn't as it was a waste of 89p but could have been worse.
Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams :)
