Timpsons do Ford Keys for around £75 when the dealers were asking £80 or more.

Also check your local keycutting/shoe repair places since some of those have the machines to do car keys. With Fords (or mine certainly) they had problems getting the right chip with the right key type but they offer them for £30.

It won't be a remote locking one for that price - you are talking £180 for one of those and the only people I could find to do that was the main dealer.

Please see above post if you find an AUTO locksmith they can do everything you need. I do ford remotes fully cut and coded from £120 and thats me doing it on your doorstep. it pays to shop around

Ok I'll try and answer both questions as fully as I can.

Yes You can code in new keys to a ford pats system even when all keys are lost although the dealers cannot do this and will charge you for a full lock change and pats unit.
I would not tape a transponder to the ariel as this will invalidate your insurance as you have effectivly bypassed the immobiliser!

Depending on the company you go to depends on what they can do I can make keys and code them into pretty much any vehicle on the road including coding in of the remotes with or without keys to work from and even when the dealer says all locks and the ECU need replacing like on Saabs and quote a massive £1600 when you have lost your keys!
A PATS unit? Thought they went out some time in the early 1990s? So how are you doing it if IDS can't do it?

Yes, it probably does invalidate your insurance for theft, however let us be awfully cold and realistic here... A fifteen year old Escort......

Nice to know. Since the ones I could find wanted me to post them the key and I couldn't find any customer reviews for the services I stayed away from them. The only other ones I could find either would not quite until I gave them lots of information or were strictly local.

Plus I didn't need to spend the extra since its only a spare key in case of loss of the first.

    Regards,

No pats is still there although more technical its PATS CAN now.
I can do it as the equipment I have is a dedicated key programmer and can clear and recode the pats memory. the dealer cannot and when they can sell you new locks and Immo unit why would they want to have that function!!!!
Valid point about the old escort but the same holds true for newer cars and someone reading this down the line needs to know the risks of doing it.

They would need that information as there are so many keys and chips and programming one is a complicated process so the more info the better mostly we will need make, model, year is it a petrol or diesel does it have an alarm and most important do you have the vehicles car pass/security codes (Not applicible to all cars) all these things make a differance.
