    In Word, just click on the Insert tab. Look for Symbols. You should find anything you need there.

    Try using "Character Map" - it's under Accessories, Communication.

    I had to type my dissertation in spanish and there is a way to actually change the language of your keyboard from english to spanish so that you actually have keys they are 'a' with an accent and ' e' with an accent and upside down '?'.

    Maybe a look on the Microsft website will help? I changed the keyboard language to spanish and then in the back of my Windows manual there was a keyboard map that showed what key was what. So it an be done without having to keep accessing the 'Insert Symbols' menu. Which is very handy if you have to type a long document.

    Here is some information from the MS website on changing your keyboard;

    If you are using Win xp you can swap very easily between language settings.. Right click on a blank bit of the task bar, (the bit along the bottom where the start button sits), and from the menu, choose toolbars. From there, pick language bar. Once this is showing, (usually at the top edge of the screen, or on the right hand edge of the task bar if minimised), right click on it, choose settings, then add. From there you can add your language, in this case Spanish, and when you want to use it, just click on the language bar, and pick the language you want from it. You can swap them around whenever the mood takes you.

  • Many thanks to all. This site never ceases to amaze me.
  • Right got this list which tells me to type ALT 144 for instance for the E. I tried it and it worked, now when I try to put them in the text nothing happens. I´m using Windows XP and typing in Word. Thanks sorry to be a pain. I´m not the best when it comes to PCs.

    Hi

    I'm moving this over to the Techie board as the topic seems to be more suited to there

    If you are typing characters that way, you have to use the number keypad on the right of the keyboard, not the keys along the top of the main board, and make sure numlock is on. That will work.
