Hobbies? Things to do?

Hi guys, Ive recently had to drop out of uni because my mum's been diagnosed with a brain tumour. This now means that I have a lot of time on my hands because although i cant work because i need to be around the house for mum incase anything happens, she doesnt actually need "caring" for.

The days are already beginning to get very boring and Im so fed up of trawling the internet and watching daytime tv. I'd like to take up some new hobbies/activities or maybe start some projects but im a bit stuck as to what. I love making things but dont have a massive income for buying bits and pieces.

I was just wondering if any of you guys could suggest things to help keep my sanity?!

Sorry to hear about your mum..

Have you thought about sewing? A machine is not essential (but useful, perhaps try freecycle) and materials cost as much or as little as you want to spend. I am making some gingham cushions at the moment, which I will customise with either some random buttons from my box or think I will make a large letter 'C' out of a scrap of floral material left over from another project. Really easy and basic stuff, but satisfying nethertheless!

First, really sorry to hear your sad news. Best wishes to all your family.

How about blogging? That's free, creative, gives you somewhere to let off steam, and might put you in touch with a supportive community of people in similar situations.

Knitting's another good one, there's a Knitters Thread on the Old Style board full of tips. Or reading - perhaps you could try to read something to do with your uni subject every now and then so as to keep your skills up to date for when you (hopefully) return one day.

Could you do Open University and get your degree studying at home?

how about finishing your degree on a OU course?

You will still be around if your mum needs you and will beat watching homes under the hammer

Sorry to read about your mum, and wishing her well. If you've dropped out of Uni have a look at all the free short courses and modules at the Open University. There will be something that will keep your study skills sharpened and add to the knowledge you've gained at Uni.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

If you like making things, could you make things to sell on Etsy or Folksy. That way it could fund you to buy new materials, or even turn a little profit.

Sorry to hear about your mum, hope things get easier.

Get a half allotment (if there are any available locally?).
If you need to be "in" or with mum then maybe not so practical.
    I find it quite therapeutic.

If you want to keep up with Uni could you do some OU modules?

    Sorry about your mum :(
