A Tesco spokesman said: ‘This is no computer glitch. These are discontinued products which have gone beyond the "reduced to clear" period.

'Our view is it is better these items are sold rather than being thrown away.

'It is completely random as to whether people come across the 1p items. But there are going to be some lucky customers out there who find the most amazing bargains.

I am one of the people that have contacted head office not because i'm upset that i was refused a penny item but its discrimination when they refuse one customer but then sell to another customer 24 hours later - this is my grudge with them.

No, it's not! They can refuse a sale for whatever reason they like, it's law, not discrimination. There's no compensation to be had from a store following the law, so put it behind you and try again. Hell, I went to a different store the other day, was refused sale of half a dozen boxes of Roses at SS so went back in after I'd paid for the rest of my shopping, got another six and paid at the other SS bank of tills. Didn't complain, just let 'em take 'em.

i see your point it is unfair but i think as others do just makes them take action quicker but who knows they could just sorted it out anyway like they did with chilli with toms.

it more they way staff treat you that is issue i think, I wasnt impressed with staff when my dove coupons get rejected but cant really complain as meant be one pre person.

    I s a bit odd they are £1 sel not £1.32 crazy mt T

This is the key - if staff got shirty about it when I'm quite happy for them to take the items off me if that's what they want, then I'll whip it out and wave it in their face.

My email from HO, I mean.

    Was that not clear?

I am also on the "say nothing, smile sweetly" side of the fence.

If we all join our voices in complaints regarding the refusal to sell 1p goods, it immediately draws their attention to the items in question. A glitch is a glitch. When it's rectified it becomes full price.

Stay shtum. Try again later if refused.

The printed article mentioned previously is a good thing to keep handy. I personally wouldn't as it just draws attention to ourselves as being a repeated penny pincher, ahem, as we feel it is necessary to carry such an article upon our person.

I would much rather be considered as someone who just so happened to strike lucky on the one occasion we are questioned regarding the items.

You could do with a few more manners I think ??

Try searching the forum or reading back some pages, i know its a fast moving thread.

I dont mean to sound harsh but you have to try to find things for yourself rather than expecting others to do it for you :o
