Billed for international text messages not sent

Im not sure if anyone else has been in this situation before - I dont even know if the issue is with Turkcell (Turkish carrier), O2 or the Iphone but I have just returned from hols and have been billed for 20 text messages and I only sent 4. My phone was only with me during the day once and the remainder of the time it was tucked up in the safe. It has a login pin and also a sim pin so I cannot possibly see how anyone else could have sent these texts - only the 4 I know I have sent are showing in my sent box and they are only standard length messages. I was on hol with my mum and I know she wouldnt use my phone at all and we were together all the time anyway. O2 have said that I cant do anything until the bill is produced and even then they say it is impossible to get the numbers that the messages were text to - surely they would have to provide this information if there is a dispute?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated x

    What have you been changed for each text ? I've seen roaming billing where instead of showing the roaming cost of an item it shows the same item X times.

    So, if say a roaming text's cost 40p the bill would show 4 texts at 10p each rather than 1 at 40p. Of course, if you've been charged the roaming cost 20 times that's not it !

    Can you be sure they are standard length messages? As only the new software on the iPhone counts the characters and you have to have this turned on? Are you sure one of them couldn't have run onto another text making it 5 messages sent? Each text sent from abroad uses 4 of any allowance/on the bill so 5x4 would equal the 20.
    How much have you been charged per text?

    I wish it was that simple but these are calls all different times of the day and as I say at time when the phone wasnt even on which is what is concerning me a little - the only explanation I can find is that someone knew the safe number and both my pin numbers...somehow I cant see that LOL

    Actually looking at it again the sms times could well be related to when the phone was physically turned on which makes it even more bizarre!

    You can ask your network to take a look at the billing logs when Turkcell send them. The only problem with that is that it can take weeks/months for the logs to be sent from the roaming network to the home network (they just send the raw billing data at first).

    You could call your networks billing team and tell them you're disputing the charges. They should be able to put a hold on the paymant until the info is recieved from Turkcell then. . .

    thanks that what I was going to do anyway - its just really bizarre but then O2 dont have a clue anyway as they tell you that the times are UK times not international which they cant possibly be unless you can now text when the plane is on the runway LOL
  • O2 are a joke - I have been told that they are correct and that they cant provide me with any further information as it wont be provided to them. I have told them I am refusing to pay for the texts unless it is investigated but they still say that they are correct and it is impossible to find out the raw information :mad:
