can someone help about me changing to V21 broadband

i am with bt wireless broadband at the moment.i am trying to find something cheaper but don,t understand much..
if i switched to V21 broadband at £9.98 per month does that mean i will be getting just about the same speed as i am getting with bt at the moment but for under half the price..
...will i still be able to have 3 pcs connected like i am with bt and
...will i still be able to use my laptop wireless like i am at the moment with bt...........also
....do i just switch online and use my same router or modem whatever you call it that i am using at the moment with bt......

...can anyone answer the questions because i am not that bright and don,t really understand...thankyou

  • Hi Frosticles1111,

I just want to make you aware of a process called migration. Migration is when you change broadband providers seamlessly using something called a Migration Authrisation Code. What you do is request the MAC from BT and then supply it to your new ISP and they will transfer the service for you.

MACs make it very simple to switch providers and minimise any downtime. Any provider who has signed the OFCOM code for migrations should provide you a MAC without any hassle. The catch with V21 is that they are one of the few providers to charge for MACs, the last I heard it was £30 for a MAC. On the other hand, BT will probably give you a MAC free of charge.

If you switch to V21 and you think that you will only be with them for a year, add £30 to your first year costs.

    Kind regards,
    Samara

I have heard that charging for MACs is being stopped by Ofcom, since it is unfair on the customer

Depending one what speed package you are paying BT for, you may be able to find a different ISP who offers a package more suitable to your needs or your lines capabilities. i.e. if you are paying for an up to 8Mb connection but your line will only support a speed of say 2Mb, you could just go for a 2Mb package elsewhere.

It depends on which particular wireless router you are currently using, as some BT routers are locked to BT and will not connect to another ISP.

  • Hi Mr J,

Currently the OFCOM code is voluntary and everyone who has signed the code cannot charge for a MAC. OFCOM are currently pushing to making the code mandatory to all providers. Which is a huge step forward for consumers - as an ISP we also fully support this move.

it's not just broadband , it's just about every utility provider , their tarrifs and pricing deals ensure that you will never get the best deal
  • Hi,
I am with V21 now, also know as (Zazizam), I have nothing but trouble with them, they have reset my account early in several occassions, which had caused me to go over the 2GB limit! I am still in dispute with them at this moment in time! So, good luck to you.
  • I have been with V21 for a couple of years now, and have never had a problem with them. I pay £16.99 a month for a 512 unlimited connection. I think this is now expensive so am attempting to migrate to Sky. Now that is a problem, but thats another story. I can confirm V21 charge £30 for a MAC code, however Sky managed to let the original MAC expire, so i ordered another from v21 at no additional cost.
