Transfer of ownership with Tmobile contract

Prior to being 18 my mother took out a mobile phone contract for me and I gave her the money each month, this worked out well and has gone on for years as we had no reason to change it. I'm now wanting to change my contract to one of better value (sim only), and keep the same number. I also want to have the contract in my name now.

I'm happy to stay with t-mobile, so when I was visiting my parents last month we went into the tmobile shop. They said that they would have to cancel the contract and open a new one in my name with a different number. The only other option is do to a 'transfer of ownership' for which we'd have to call customer services and it can take up to 30 days.

I was wondering if anybody has any expereince of doing this? I haven't called up yet, but wanted to get a rough idea of what I might need etc. I live a good 600 miles away from my parents now, so I'm a little worried how it will work if they need to speak to both of us at the same time.

They will need to speak to you both. You mother will need to call and clear security and tell them what she wants to do. You'll then have to give them your info and they'll do a credit check, once you pass they'll transfer the acc into your name.
