it will be busy, as i believe today is the last day you can apply for one for free, as from the 08th they start charging. you can even apply for a free ESTA even if you are not travelling yet, and it's valid for 2 years (or until your passport runs out - whichever is sooner), so i guess there are a lot of people applying now to beat the charge!.

  • We went to florida in May. Would we have filled out one of these forms then?. Sorry to sound vague but DH is not here to ask and he sorted all the travel arrangements.

If you travelled by air or sea, and used the VWP, then yes.

There is no harm in applying again though as they last 2 years.

Site seems to be back up now.

Is there any other paperwork I should take when visiting the States? I'm visiting my girlfriend for 2 weeks, have return flights obviously, but someone suggested I should get a letter from my employer confirming they have granted me leave and that I will be returning to the UK after, a bank statement to prove funds, an itinerary of what we might do and address I will be staying at.

It's my first trip over, is all that wise/necessary? Are they really that paranoid I may stay?!
