If you earnt 75k a year why would you want to live in a small place worth around £120k?

Maybe because they would rather live within their means? Just a thought, I know it's the internet and all, but not everyone wants a whopping great big house just because they can afford it.

Or maybe they think that house prices will fall off a cliff in the coming months?

haha, you found nothing out - it's quite simple - I save 3k a month from my net - I want to buy a property for a family member that I will use in the UK when I am over, I live and work abroad but have family in UK, it's either a very nice 2 bed flat or a !!!!!! 3 bed terrace where I'm looking, I'd rather have the flat.

I've saved 30K a year net for last 4 years, my gross is around 100K, I don't pay the same tax as you in the UK, my effective tax rate all in is 31.7%

I currently rent a property in UK which a family member lives in, I want to buy a place outright for them to live in but which will be mine - I will always retain the right to stay there, that's why I wanted 2 bed plus I have a property already if I ever need to come back to UK

so yes i could afford to buy somewhere better and nicer but that is not what I need - I could have bought 4 years ago when the need arose but the market felt very frothy to me so I decided to gamble that my call was right and saved instead - in my particular circumstance I got it right and got lucky

I gave a clue I was foreign based when I mentioned I was hoping a UK HPC would induce a currency devaluation of circa 20% on top of the nominal falls - in fact since 4 years ago £ has devalued against CHF by 35% and I can see another 20% downside max, especially if they end up doing QE2

Why can't you debt-junkies understand that some people don't want to get the biggest mortgage they can?
