If you earnt 75k a year why would you want to live in a small place worth around £120k?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Another one found out.
Maybe because they would rather live within their means? Just a thought, I know it's the internet and all, but not everyone wants a whopping great big house just because they can afford it.
Or maybe they think that house prices will fall off a cliff in the coming months?Set your goals high, and don't stop till you get there.

haha, you found nothing out - it's quite simple - I save 3k a month from my net - I want to buy a property for a family member that I will use in the UK when I am over, I live and work abroad but have family in UK, it's either a very nice 2 bed flat or a !!!!!! 3 bed terrace where I'm looking, I'd rather have the flat.
I've saved 30K a year net for last 4 years, my gross is around 100K, I don't pay the same tax as you in the UK, my effective tax rate all in is 31.7%
I currently rent a property in UK which a family member lives in, I want to buy a place outright for them to live in but which will be mine - I will always retain the right to stay there, that's why I wanted 2 bed plus I have a property already if I ever need to come back to UK
so yes i could afford to buy somewhere better and nicer but that is not what I need - I could have bought 4 years ago when the need arose but the market felt very frothy to me so I decided to gamble that my call was right and saved instead - in my particular circumstance I got it right and got lucky
I gave a clue I was foreign based when I mentioned I was hoping a UK HPC would induce a currency devaluation of circa 20% on top of the nominal falls - in fact since 4 years ago £ has devalued against CHF by 35% and I can see another 20% downside max, especially if they end up doing QE20 -

Why can't you debt-junkies understand that some people don't want to get the biggest mortgage they can?"The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

I didn't say anything about getting the biggest mortgage possible, try and make at least one post on topic naerlynew. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
