Round my way house prices are ticking upwards nicely. Bit of a wobble post-election, as expected, but normal service has now been resumed

  • Clearly "all the indicators" do not point to a rising market. Here's one example
(Reuters) - Britain's housing market is in the midst of new dip that will shave at least another 5 percent off current house prices, according to a quarterly Reuters poll of economists and property analysts http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKLNE68M03720100923

The banks are severely restricted at the moment in their ability to lend - it's not so much about whether they want to as whether they can. There is much less money in the system. Add that to rising unemployment and the sheer unaffordability of houses and logic says they simply can't rise materially, and could & should fall sharply.

  • Well Madness, Reuters is generally regarded as the worlds most authoritative source of unbiased facts, there isn't a single news provider that doesn't use them. But I dare say you know better.
  • This is nothing more than scare mongering. Halifax pointed to a rise in prices and unemployment has levelled off. QE2 is about to kick off and lending increased hence the modest rises over winter.
Rubbish, house prices will SOAR over the winter, there will be no modest rise, people have been distracted over the last couple of weeks because of the upcoming Commonwealth Games. There will be no cuts on 20 Oct so employment will SOAR. The only thing hold back price rises is that sellers are not asking high enough prices and some stupid sellers are even REDUCING prices, WHY?? Halifax will show a rise of 3% this month, 100% certain so if you don't but now you will miss out.

Thanks but I don't share your opinion. Only modest rises this winter before the house price escalator speeds up next year beginning from the spring bounce.

Would this be the spring bounce that never happened this year?

Asking prices down, for the last three months and you think prices are rising, wot a numpty.

Yes, asking prices falling round here lots too. :)
  • Same here, seeing some juicy drops - prices are dropping into the range where I can buy outright - all I need now is a nice currency crash to go along with the HPC for an extra 20% kicker. Oh happy days! :j
