Ruff Tuff bed not so Tuff

  • I'd def wait until pups are past their chewing stage before bying a "proper" bed - my dog has a duvet with cover on in a bread crate (like the supermarkets use). Easily washed & cheap!

Kayl0rz - where did you get it? I'd say that should be your first port of call for any complaint.

    Pets at home.

I figured i'd try and email a manufacturer to complain because its obviously the build quality

retailer is responsible, go to them not the manufacturer.

retailer will deal with manufacturer based on level of returns and customer complaint.

Must admit, I looked at these beds the other day - really not that puppy proof - they we're quite weak to be declared as rough and tuff imo.

We just ended up buying a pair of plastic beds which we cover in £1.59 blankets from Ikea - they find them comfy (the girl loves fresh sheets!) and if they do get bored they chew a hole in the blanket. Not the end of the earth and not my kitchen cabinet or wall either, so we all happy.

I use a single duvet cut in half, then the half folded in 4 and put in an old pillowcase. Repeat with the other half of the duvet and the result is 2 free dog beds which can be washed when required. And if one pillowcase/bit of duvet gets chewed just put another pillowcase on top. I seem to have a good deal of old pillowcases :)

  • We bought a pets at home Ruff n Tuff bed for our GSD puppy. We collected her in it and drove for 3 hours home with her asleep in it. She never tried to attack it then.
We exchanged it for the biggest size after a few days as she was already outgrowing it, and the exchange was no problem at all!

She has tried hard to kill it, rip it, rend it, drag it from room to room, etc., but it is still in the same condition as when we bought it. And she has had a terrible time teething. It's a brilliant purchase, and I really, really WISH they made an extra large one.
We will now be introducing her to a bigger, 3 Peaks bed, by keeping it in the car for her to get used to for now.

Well worth the reasonable money in my opinion!

Given the previous posts, I suspect ruff and tuff may have changed how they make the beds or something. We bought one for our Border Terrier pup, he has had it 7 months now and although the Velcro tabs and the "ruff and tuff" label were chewed off within a day or two, the bed itself it's still intact.

He carries it round the house, shakes it like a rag doll, plays tug o war with it, and if I kneel on it then he will grab an end and drag me across the floor on it. I would have to say it's pretty indestructible!

We use folded up vet-bed until puppy is old enough to realise it is not in their interests to destroy the bed- plenty of alternative toys help a bit too. The vet bed lasts well- and is easily washable too. I have some that has lasted 15 years so far.I usually go for a cushion four layers thick- so start off with a really big piece off ebay.

As duvets are expensive to have cleaned and are too large for the washing machine, I buy cheap ones, then when they need laundering cut them up, so they easily fit in the washer and use them in dog duvet covers.

The covers can be bought cheaply in markets or online or you can make them yourself.

Mind you I've never had a bed wrecker.
