Ruff Tuff bed not so Tuff

I bought a dog bed that was meant to be ruff and tuff, it didn't say it was indestructible but could stand upto serious chewing. However within the space of four days my 6 month puppy had started to pull the stuffing out.

I got it from pets at home, but I don't have the reciept anymore and plus it didn't say it was indestructible, so I prob won't be able to get another one to replace.

Has anyone else had one of these ruff and tuff beds from pets at home and did they last out?

Or can you recommend an indestructable bed?

The only one i've seen that guarentees to be indestructable or money back is the Really Tuff Tuffie which is expensive, though probably an investment if it lasts for years. Being a pup perhaps it will grow out of the bed wrecking stage, so maybe just get cheap blackets or vet bed for now with a hard bed.

Puppies teeth are like Razors and will go through most things. I never buy a long term bed until they have got through the rip anything soft apart stage. Once that stage is over you then have your choice of Dog beds.

As a puppy we just used one of the large plastic beds and used either vet bedding or old blankets to fill it when it got damaged beyond repair just replace the old blankets (cheap at charity shops)
  • Its always better to wait for the dogs to get past the teething stages before buying them expensive beds......having said that, some dogs never really stop chewing what they think is theirs.

I have a dog who chews her own things (thank goodness she does not chew our stuff) and I have not found a single toy or chewable or bed that she cannot destroy.....and we have tried everything, from the tough kongs to anything that says tougher than tough on it.

    Not a single thing.

I bought mine in september and it now in tatters my puppy chews everything!. I think the manufacturers are at fault in misleading the consumer. Rod
  • I bought a Ruff Tuff bed from Pets at Home and my GSP puppy pulled it apart in a couple of days. I took it back and Pets at home were really helpful - agreed it hadn't been very Ruff and Tuff and reimbursed me - great service!

lol, I got the same bed, took my two staffies less than 24 hours to completely destroy it. Well, actually it took them the hour they were left alone for lol.

Had one for the Lab- got greeted with a smug grin the next morning and a floor covered in scraps of it..... :)
Eventually she seemed to work out that she was the one losing out and stopped chewing!

i have had the same problem with the one i bought as well but my puppy is only 14 wks old
  • Didnt want to start a new thread.... so i thought i'd bump this one.

Ive had the same problem! My dog (18 month old Chihuahua x Jack Russel) has a habbit of ripping his crate beds to bits, so i thought id pay a little bit more (have been buying £1.99 ped mats in the past) to try and ensure he wont wreck his new one. Ruff and Tuff sounded like a good choice... however left overnight... i came downstairs to a crate filled with green stuffing! i could barely see the dog for all the stuffing!

Its the bit where they sew the lable on that seems to be a week point, he just chewed through that and bingo, he was in!

I want to send them an email to say how disapointed i am, however i cant seem to find any websites for the brand to get contact details from.

Does anyone know where i can get an email or something?

    Is this a PaH brand?
  • I'd def wait until pups are past their chewing stage before bying a "proper" bed - my dog has a duvet with cover on in a bread crate (like the supermarkets use). Easily washed & cheap!

Kayl0rz - where did you get it? I'd say that should be your first port of call for any complaint.
