well one of the pads is 0.8m thick so clearly it needs changing, the other at the front is 2.9m,,, does this really need to be changed?

the discs say 19.63m and 18.89m for the 2 front ones and they are 'worn' and need changing

we're clueless really, could we just change the pads do you think?
Pads, yes they must be changed, and must be changed as an axle set....... You can't buy them seperately, and if you changed one side of your brake system, you would cause a serious accident the first time you had to brake from any speed.

What engine size/spec is the vehicle? I'll check the disc specs for you.

Nissan list 20mm as the change point.

However, I'd be inclined to believe that a fast-fit centre has measured them at the lowest possible point, potentially just under the lip.

WITHOUT seeing them, I'd be happy to leave them, but that's me actually looking at them, and making a personal judgement.

thanks, yes. i suppose there is the thing that if we get them changed now, then its going to be alright for ages, whereas if we leave it for a bit more (the service by nissan put it as 'caution' at the end of last year), then we have to change them so we're paying for labour twice

The only time it is worth using the (Ford-owned) Kwikfit lifetime brake replacement program is if you own a car which wears-out its pads/discs really quickly (such as a Focus, which does about 25k per set of pads/discs), and you do a very high annual mileage.
    Never Knowingly Understood.

well based on the last year, its 20k a year but that could change in later years
  • Have the tyres been on the car since new ?
If so 34k miles isnt so bad really the front tyres on a front wheel drive car always wear out faster than the rears so maybe this is why they are only suggesting you need 2 tyres just now. On my last company car doing 30k miles a year I used to get 20k from a front set of tyres but I got nearly 60k from the rears...
As for discs / pads for something like a nissan note I would expect the parts to be around 60 pounds from a motor factor if the pads are worn down so low and the discs are below the minimum thickness I wouldnt hesitate to replace although I wouldnt pay a fast fit centre to do it...
Also putting new pads on worn / scored discs means it takes a long time for the pads to bed in to this surface.

Utter, utter nonsense! Discs/pads will last as long as you make them! someone who does 40k a year and breezes upto juntions etc will make their discs/pads last a lot longer than some tool who does 6k a year ands stomps on them at the last minute.

yes the tyres are the original, it was a motobility car, had about 6k on it, its done another 30 in the last 18 months. its an automatic if that makes any difference. no we dont stomp on the brakes!

the two that need changing are the passenger side front and back
