Car insurance quotes

My current insurer DL has decided to more than double my insurance premium from last year and I have had no claims etc. It must be my age:eek: so I have been scouring the comparison sites and on 3 of them so far, Bradford and Bingley has come up the cheapest, although each site gives a slightly different premium.
The car I have is an old banger and I only drove about 2500 miles last year and probably less this year (free bus pass)so basically cheapest is best for me.
So what are Bradford and Bingley like for car insurance?

If it's just an old banger, and you don't use it a great deal, just go with the cheapest. Bradford & Bingley probably don't have the best level of cover (you get what you pay for) but who cares? As long as you're legal. If you're car is that old and naff, just bin it if you have an accident.
Don't take my advise though, pedro123456 will be along shortly with his completely unbiased, professional opinion.0 -
If you're not worried about claiming for your own damage, see what it costs when you take a massive voluntary excess (eg swiftcover let you take £1000 excess, irrespective of the car's value)0

That's all I'm bothered about, the cheapest I have got so far is £79 from BB. That's what I paid DL last year and the year before. Now they want £158.0 -
Swiftcover £1000 excess want £127.
That's them off the list0 -
You have a car insurance quote of £79? That amazing!0

Not, really.
It's probably mainly down to age (also postcode, claims, convictions, NCB).
But that's not uncommon for many people in their 40s or 50s if they have a clean record and live in a nice area.
I can see how it would appear amazing to someone much younger though. Insurance is now very expensive for young people.
Most of my friends in their 40s and 50s are in double digits.0 -
Double figures. Really? My mother just renewed her car insurance.....shes married, homeowner, live in a very desirable area, 45 years driving experience, no accidents and more no claims than I care to remember. £235 or something. The car is worth about £6k and is a 2lt TDI.0

I didn't think the Bradford and Bingley did car insurance anymore. My wife was with them and she received a letter saying the policy had been transferred over to someone else as they were no longer doing car insurance.0 -

Well someone must have forgotten to tell the 4 comparison sites I went on.
The car is an old banger, I put it down as worth £500 and maximum voluntry excess. I thought I would try TPFT but it is more expensive than fully comp.
One year my car insurance only cost me £24 but that was with cashback.
Yes, car insurance gets cheaper when you are in your 60's, retired and the only driver and have over 30 years NCB and drive an old banger.0 -
