Please don't laugh at dumb question(s)

I know nothing. So any advice welcome.

1)I am currently living in a house with no ariel and so rely on Sky- and am subscribing to Sky Plus. We are about to move and have sold old style portable TV in readiness. However move has been delayed and DD wants flat screen TV sooner rather than later. If I buy a TV with inbuilt freeview in readiness for the move, can I still connect it to the existing Sky and use it before we go?

2) I believe new house has good ariel and signal, so I won't continue the Sky. lI will have to convert existing big lounge TV to digital. Would you recommend just a freeview plus box to convert? How do you record programmes if you buy a new TV with Freeview built in ? as many of them seem to have this.

3)How do you know what is about to become obsolete, so I can avoid buying such a thing?

4) I assume existing sky box and sky Plus box is going to be of no use in a different proprty without a dish.? (contract is over 12 months now)

Thank you

    1) No, you need a TV with FREESAT built in or TV plus a FREESAT box. I suggest a FREESAT box as you aren't having Sky when you move.

    2) You need a PVR with Freeview to record and it will need TWIN TUNERS if you want to watch another channel while one is recording. If you buy a TV with built-in Freeview you will need a separate PVR if you wish to record.

    3) Don't buy a non-HD TV or one without a Digital Receiver.

    4) Correct. No use without a satellite dish.

I can't just 'bypass' the freeview element built in and connect it to my existing sky box here then?:o
and use it as a freeview TV when I move

Yes, you can, any modern Freeview TV can connect to a Sky box and work that way. If they didn't, no-one in the UK would get Sky, as all new TV's have Freeview tuners built in.
You only need a Freesat tuner if you want to get Freesat at a later date and would prefer not to have to by a separate Freesat digibox.
Some TV's have both a Freeview and Freesat tuner built in, but this will not give you PVR facilities-for that you'll need a PVR for the platform you are using.
PS: it would have been much cheaper to get an aerial than subscribe to Sky for x years...
