I smile and nod, maybe say Hi, don't start a conversation and leave it at that. There's no point being outright rude and I'd only stress about it later if I hadn't done at least the basics of being a bit courteous.

Small smile and a hi. Then if they do blank me, I have a wicked withering look.

I wouldn't bother to be honest. You've said you're not keen on her and she stopped bothering with you ages ago- that suggests to me you're both happy with the situation. You might both find things a lot more awkward if you try saying hello.

The way I see it virtually everyone has this happen time to time. Don't let it bother you. If the friendships dead and neither of you care it's best not to make a big thing of it and simply move on.

I have had this a few times, and its always awkward.
I once saw someone I went to school with in the supermarket (I had known her from age 4-16), I smiled and nodded - she gave me a really dirty look as if to say "How dare you acknowledge me" :rotfl:

I saw an ex-collegue and her partner in a restaurant, we had been really close and I had last seen them at their wedding 4 years previously. Neither of us acknowledged the other and I was debating whether to go over and say hello, when I realised they were having a blazing row and the partner stormed out, glad I didn't now :D

I agree with the other posters, sometimes ex-friends are that for a reason. I am no longer in contact with anyone from school as we all move on and our lives take different directions.

  • A girl I used to work with years ago, her parents live near to me and I walk past their Grove on the way to my kids school. We were always falling out at work. We have both moved on now and most of the time if I saw her she would ignore me. But the one day she stopped me and started to chat to me, only because she wanted to tell me that she'd moved into a new house on so and so road and tell me about her new job as a lunchtime assistant at her son's school, it was all about her and she couldn't give a fig about me.

Next time I saw her she ignored me again. Then a few days later, I logged into my Facebook and there was a friend request from her

    Of course I declined it.
