Well the difference between that and firstcall is about £70, more if you look at Swinton so bit of a difference ;) almost double....

Swinton looks good in terms of price, perhaps too good, no experience of them though, will have to see if i can find any reviews...I know their car insurance is a bit dodgy but that's all.

Like I said, a few quid.;) For a service I have always found to be excellent (and I have used them quite often), well worth it to me.:)

Would you trust a company like Swinton with breakdown insurance, I wouldn't.

They dont provide the breakdown do they, AXA do looking at the terms, not sure who they work with
  • Just renewed mine £130 for 2 years AA cover including European Breakdown, homestart and relay plus, that was taking up Fiats offer so not diretly with the AA but I thought that wasnt too bad.

    Hi
After researching on this site I used:

    http://www.quotelinedirect.co.uk

for 12 months European cover which cost a one-off payment of £59.

There is a 14 day wait to be covered for European travel but UK travel is covered immediately.

Within 1 month I had to claim - we broke down 1 hr south of Calais on the Autoroute Grand Espace with roof box and 5 adults! I do speak some French and managed to arrange breakdown pick up from motorway as our mobile phones wouldn't work. Once we are at the garage we rang the breakdown service number we had and they took over.

They were fantastic! In the end they provided a French speaking person who was able to help set up a 4 day hotel stay whilst car was repaired then car hire to continue holiday (we paid for this tho) then car hire to get us to Calais, ferry crossing, then car hire back in the UK to our home. They also arranged the repatriation of our car when it turned out the engine was more damaged than first thought.

The whole situation was a complete nightmare with all sorts of things going wrong - mobile phones not working, car hire car breaking down, car hire company closing for holiday without giving us our car, having to wait for new part, in UK were given a tiny car and literally had to stand on boot to shut it with kids and me sitting with half our luggage on our laps for a 6 hour journey. You name it it went wrong!

BUT the breakdown company were great and kept in touch and did loads to help us out - including ringing our friends to advise we would not be arriving and trying to sort out our mobile phones and several taxis to get us to all the car hire companies and hotel. All in all we reckon we cost them over £2500 - we got a bargain for £59 and still the rest of the year is covered - we checked with them!!!!

Eycpluk and butch i tried quoteline direct but they don't seem to do a joint policy? Is it a case of having to ring them?

In the end we went with autoaid, thanks redpete....Decided it was a risk worth taking for the savings we got...
  • Whatever you do dont even consider Quoteline Direct. I took out a policy for a 7 day holiday to France and they were totally unresponsive. They even decined my cashback request via Quidco claiming that they had paid the referal fee elsewhere but Quidco can't say who. Based on my previous experience with them I suspect it's just a ruse to avoid paying me my cashback. Thankfully I didnt need to claim during my stay in France as they completely ignored my questions prior to me travelling; I dread to think what would have happened if I had broken down with my family! I must add that Quidco have been great and as I always use a different browser when buying anything via Quidco which always results in me being paid....apart form when Quoteline Direct are involved!! don't use these people.

Often, it is cheaper to go to your insurance company and see what they can offer you Breakdown cover and recovery from, mine has always offered me it at a very good rate, often much cheaper than others, such as the AA and the RAC.

Also, by having it done via your insurance company, you will get a discount from what others who are not insured with them and only ever have to pay them, instead of messing around paying several companies!

Check what your car manafacturers do if its a fairly new vehicle

For example, Toyota do one for £64 and its full european cover from the AA along with other benefits etc...
