Hi my baby is 7 1/2 months so am only using it now to sterilise his bottles and spouts and spoons. As you only put a very small amount of water in i think that it will be the smae as boiling this amount of water,
thanks for the suggestions, I will now only use it once a day max, as will fill it up to the max.
thanks again.Grocery Challenge Feb 14 £500 / Spent £572.10!

My steam sterilizer is rated at 390W and takes 10 minutes per cycle.....Does sums....that's about 0.6p per cycle. The effect on your electricity bill is negligible.
It's been a while since I was sterilizing bottles but my recollection is that if you use sterilizing solution you are supposed to rinse the solution off the bottles with cooled boiled water which needs yet more electricity.....0 -

Really, strange that, when I boil my kettle, it uses no electricity. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
black-saturn wrote:The good thing about cold sterilising is that as long as the items are left in the solution they are still sterile. With the steam steriliser they only stay sterile for a few hours.

Not actually correct, the bottles are sterile until the unit is opened.
For cold sterilising you would need 1 bucket, 1 pack of tabs (approx 60p for 30) and water. Make up solution according to instructions and it can be used for up to 24hrs and the bottles can be left in there till you need them and they are still sterile.
As for cooking fishing in a baby's steriliser, surely thats unhygienic in itself.Proud to be me, proud to be who I am!!0 -
