Full of regret!!

I had my house on the market for a year, could not get house sold or see anywhere suitable to move to in that time, although we didnt view much as i didnt want to view until we sold our house.

I kept dropping the price and put house on here for feedback and it was good feedback about property

Last week I got so fed up waiting that I took house of the market, but now think i shouldnt have. I have a young family and having the house on the market was starting to ruin my enjoyment with the children so that is why I took it of

Still wish I could move but does thinking maybe should wait a few years to take a breather and to watch for the market to pick up.

Anyone any ideas on how i could content myself? or been in the same situation?

Sorry to hear you're feeling down. It's good though that you noticed it was impacting on family life.

I could suggest maybe a rejigging of the rooms ? have a major de-clutter. Sometimes it's good to rid of stuff that just clutters our lives. With a bit more space you might fall in love with your home again.

I had thought maybe a freshen up and some new accessories in rooms, my Mum had suggested maybe putting house back on market next spring with a different agent although Im guessing i will face the problem again of finding somewhere bigger to move to within budget

It's not a sellers market right now, but it's definitely still possible to sell.

Are all the rooms a 'neutral' colour? A cheap and quick clear up can work wonders. I've heard that baking bread and moving the lawn can make a massive difference too supposedly.

Where would you move the lawn to? Upstairs, out the front?.....:rotfl:

I think that de-cluttering is good. Although making the house looking lived in is good, having the least amount of stuff in there makes it look bigger etc etc

Yep neutral colours, and I dont think baking bread will make a big difference really but at present I think I need a breather just need some tips on contentment at the moment,
  • Maybe get a new "obsession". I'm assuming that you're like me and have been obsessed with selling your house over the last few months.

Is there anything comimg up that you can focus your mind on? Planning a holiday? kids part? Xmas? Fitness campaign?

Anything really. Think maybe you just need a diversion...

avenida, I think when you've had your home on the market some time you lose touch with your own life. Keeping it in pristine conditions for viewings (especially with children) can be tense in itself, your routines go out of whack.

Remember life before. Did you have friends round often ? I've been feeling a bit blue (thanks to NFH) so I'm organising a Wii night. Nothing like seeing your friends do hoola on Wii Fit to give you a good giggle! haha. (Don't think I'll make the vodka jellies this time - getting a little old for those now lol).

I'd also say take up card-making (great to do with the kids) but that would bring more stuff into the house.

Have you looked at ways of maximising storage space ?

Tell your agent you are disappointed and ask for honest feedback.
He / she is the best person to advise you what to do. If you get fobbed off with "it's market forces blah blah" get another agent.

A bigger house = bigger price. There is no way round that unless you want to buy in less desireable area.

I don't think del12 really believes that neutral colours and the smell of baking bread will sell your house. But he did make me chuckle.

Assume you have probably covered this previously but is there no way and extension could give you what you need?

It does become very "life consuming" having your house on the market for a long time so I can certainly appreciate that taking it off is possibly the right decision for family life. Been there and done that

Get started on revamping several rooms ready for when you do put it back on. Could your garden become a project over the winter maybe to make it a feature. None of this has to cost a fortune as you can source garden stuff through freecycle or boot sales and you can take garden furniture ornaments with you

EDIT - Ok just found you have previously ruled out extending. prices in NI are very depressed and slow market it seems so as you say probably the right decision. As you have a larger garden by the sounds get stuck in!

    Good luck!
