Help please Price hikes for energy
Hello I wonder if anyone can help me.
I read in martins email that companies are hiking prices for electricity and gas.
I am on a standard tariff with british gas for gas and electricity. (duel fuel)
I understand the the price hikes will apply to standard tarriffs.
I am looking for a supplier that will give me a capped price
I understand duel fuel is not always cheapest so I have compared gas only, and electric only.
I have worked out my total gas annual consumption, and my total electricity consumption, and also the combined gas and electricity consumption.
When looking at the comparison tables, should I only be looking at prices lower than my annual useage price?
Please advise
thanks

Firstly the best way to use the comparison sites is to enter your annual consumption in units(kWh).
The tariffs are then listed in order. Most of the cheaper tariffs have conditions e.g. a penalty for leaving early - discount applied after 12 months - paperless billing etc.
Only you can decide which of the conditions is acceptable for your circumstances.0 -
Hi, I worked out my annual kwh useage, and entered the details.
If I want to change suppliers using energy helpline, will they contact my old supplier, or do I have to do that?
Many thanks0 -
Your new supplier will contact the old one once you have signed up.0

Npower Go Fix 3 seems the best deal for me, after checking the comparison table with energyhelpline.
Energy helpline says it can take upto six weeks to process application.
The terms and conditions of npower state the following
"Online Price Control Period
These terms apply from the date when we agree we will supply you under our Go-Fix 3 offer until 31st October 2011 or any earlier date on which you change your tariff or you do not meet the eligibility criteria and your Online Price Control Agreement ends. We call this the Online Price Control Period.
Our charges
During the Online Price Control Period our prices for electricity and gas will be fixed at the current prices for your area that you opted for online at sign-up, these being the prices indicated in the Go-Fix 3 offer, applicable to your area on the opening date of the offer. The only exception to this is if any charge or cost is imposed by or as a consequence of any action, order, decision or imposition"
My question is this-
I just want to check something, as I am a little confused. - If npower pull this offer off the market, in the six weeks it takes to process my application, will the Go Fix 3 offer not be available to me?
Please can someone advise.
Many thanks0 -
Whatever else you do, get off the standard tariffs, as they are the most expensive. Switch via a cashback site (not via a comparison site) to maximise the benefit. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Energy helpline is a cashback site. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/you-switch-gas-electricity#cashback
I decided on npower as they seemed the best deal. I am ready to apply I would just like someone to clarify the text in blue in my last post.
Does the second paragraph of my blue text show that I will get the Go fix 3 offer?

No it's not, it's a comparison site that pays you a miserly £15 cashback. I was referring to either quidco or topcashback, who will pay rather more (currently up to £100 depending on tariff). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

My memory and thinking is impaired as I am currently reducing tranquilisers, and these two things are part of the symptoms.
Would i have got an instant email, if I had confirmed the application with energyhelpline, as I havent received an email as yet.
Topcashback and quidco do not do the Go Fix 3 duel fuel tarrif which is what I want because it is fixed at a price cheaper than mine until october 31st 2011.0 -
'Topcashback and quidco do not do the Go Fix 3 duel fuel tarrif'
That's not what Quidco says: it says '£40 cashback on any (unspecified) dual fuel switch'. That seems fairly unequivocal.
It's not Quidco that 'do' the tariff, once logged in you simply click through to NPower and select whatever tariff you wish.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I logged into quiddo, and clicked npower, and then clicked cashback, and it only gave me info on their tarriff "juice" I then clicked "See how much you could save! compare npower prices, go fix 3 was on there, but one of the terms of npowers go fix 3 is that you have to go via an energy broker website.
Is quidco is an energy broker site?
Also
The terms say
"you have to be a new customer of thiers (or any other npower group company) unless we permit otherwise in which case you will lose any benefits of your previous npower tariff and may not be able to return to that tariff later;"
UKpower says that npower combines the former electricity and gas supply businesses of MEB, Calortex, MEB Powerline, National Power Energy Direct, Independent Energy, Yorkshire Electricity and Northern Electric & Gas.
I used to be a customer of Northern electric. Is Northern electric stilll classed as a npower group company, even though it does not exist?
Does that mean that I am not allowed to apply
sorry to be a nuiscance, but it all seems so complicated, and time is running out by all accounts.
thank you0
