hi i was just wondering what has suprised everyone this year by doing really well or really bad.. we have had a lot of rain in north wales and no sun but we have had a bumper crop of fruit, the plums are amazing and i was most suprised by my peach tree that has given us over 60 very large peaches 2 years ago we had 1 peach which we cut in to 6 pieces so we could all try ( I know it sounds sad) this year i have made 2 lots of jam and am going to do chutney from them
but my tomatoes are still mainly green so was not much good
what have you had good or bad..

What surprised me this year was that i planted stuff and it actually grew! Now i am hooked :-)Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

What surprised me most, is that I had a better yield (especially spuds) in the past 3 wet years, than I have this year when we had more sun early on.
Hey Ho! - can't win them all.0 -
Tree fern survived it's 1st winter

Agave Americana didn't
Clematis Montana has extended 4m along the fence.
Stipa gigantea has been superb in 2nd season
Pretty much all roses and summer perennials have been poor due to irregular rain
Seeds off Ebay generally poor for germination IMHO
Good crop of veg from Dig In seeds0 -
Surprised that in my first year, everything I planted grew! I put that down to the weather rather than anything I did.
Surprised that our new cats have NOT dug or pooped in the garden (and before anyone attacks, no they haven't done it in the neighbours' gardens either)
Surprised that my alternating runner bean / sweet pea wigwams didn't really work too well (runner beans swamped the peas before they'd had much chance to flower).
Can't wait to get thinking about next year.0 -
The number of semi-hardy plants that survived the vile winter - notably my penstemons, which did really well and a gaura or two. That and a specially good crop of Charlotte potatoes from bags. Last year's bags weren't anything like as good. My peas were a disappointment, though.0

White Lady runner bean seeds - BBE 2005 - chucked under this yrs bean plants and buried under the mulch as no-hopers - just about all have grown and are producing beans! :jIf I'm over the hill, where was the top?0

My Grape vine, Mothers day present from last year looked dead after the winter but survived thrived and has six little bunches of grapes. just praying for sunny days to ripen then now. Dont have a greenhouse so it takes its chance outside in all weathers.Slimming World at target0

This little lot is certainly something I am proud of!!
TBH I thought we had left it too late to get the potatoes in the ground....we chitted them late, then didn't get them in the ground until the end of May/ beginning of June!
These little beauties came off two of the plants we have
there are still another 2 plants in the ground! OH loves being able to nip down to the garden to get some spuds for tea!!
Also, green beans have come along REALLY well! We started it indoors and we thought we had killed it
but we got it outside, watered it and voila! We have picked off so far about 20, all of which about 6 inches in length!
This is all we have harvested at the minute.... we still have brussell sprouts, leeks and beetroot in the ground.
I'm getting my book out tonight....see what I can do for next year

I'm also pretty surprised about my spuds!
We got our allotment in the last week of May (I think) - I immediatly put a last minute order to T&M - they didn't send much of what I actually ordered, must have been the dregs they sent. We didn't get them in the ground til into June. Anyway less than 14 weeks or something I have loads and loads of spuds, some of them got blight but I cut the tops off and the spuds are fine.
I just don't know where to keep them all - I've no room!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0
