He's written what he paid, and what he reckons they are worth.... where? Not on each card, surely?

I'm no expert but I'd suggest that they are 'worth' whatever the value in the Murray's catalogue says. From a brief look, that seems to be the authoritative guide, at 2007 at least...... here's their website - they seem to publishing the 2011 edition of their catalogue in October.....

So you don't know what price you might achieve on eBay then?
Selling them as a job lot to a dealer is obviously the quick way, but then you can't expect to get a retail price if they are doing all the work.

not on the cards no lol, not what he reckons he had a book and im sure thats were he got the cat price from, he wrote the price on a sticky paper and stuck them on the plastic sleeves they are in

Murray's guide is good for identifying sets etc but DO NOT take their prices as being anywhere near what you set is worth. The prices in the guide are what Murrays will charge you for a full mint set/ or card There is no way you can get anywhere near these prices selling them yourself. Sounds like whoever bought them paid full retail for them, you won't get anything like that back.
What you get for them on Ebay will be the true value!

i think thats were he got the cat price from,
he didn't pay full cat price for them, infact about half or under i would say,

It's the same with stamps, a quick valuation of my fathers stamps show prices that go well into the thousands, and that is certainly what he must have paid over 70+ years of collecting. However I anticipate getting around £60 when they go to auction next month.

Unofortunately dealers price and original price paid are meaningless, whilst ebay may not always have the big dealers it is a good place to start with prices. What they sell for on there is at least a ball park figure.

Just rememebred as well that last month i sold a Pokemon card for my son, he paid £20 for it at the height of the Pokemon mania it is a special import from Japan, went unsold several times on ebay at 99p until it finally went on first bid.
