sunday working

Unless your contract says your working week doesn't include Sundays then it's up to the manager. I used to work in a shop and had to do some Sundays. The only way I could get out of it was being nice to the manager.0

hi i have been working every other sunday for over a year now, there is nothing in my contract which states i have to work sundays, only that i have to be flexiable. can i say i dont want to work sundays anymore without giving notice? im a care worker
So, what are your regular days and hours? Is sunday overtime? And is the problem more that youhave a sunday dropped on you with no notice? and if so, why is this happening?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. You really answered your own question in your first post.
You said that your contract said that you have to be flexible. And presumably you signed and received a copy.
You really cant get out of that one free.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I'd say the only other thing to consider is whether everyone works every other Sunday, and if not why not and would they be willing to do so? Because if you can present a solution, you are more likely to get the response you want, but never working on a Sunday again is unlikely to happen.Signature removed for peace of mind0

loads of people dont work weekends at the company, others that do get two days off in the week, i an many others only get one day off its one rule for one and another rule for someone else. so i guess ill just refuse and they can sack my !!!0

But it looks like the sundays are just your solution and the problem is not entirely about working sundays.
I'll invite you again to answer my questions - So, what are your regular days and hours? Is sunday overtime? OK - for the sake of total clarity - YOU CANNOT OPT OUT OF WORKING SUNDAYS. The right to opt out extends on to shop and betting office staff - and you are neither of those. The only other right to opt out consists of a deeply and genuinely held religious belief that you should NEVER work on Sundays - and since you have been working Sunday for a year now then you obviously do not have such a belief. It does not matter one bit what your contract says about Sunday. You have worked on Sundays for over a year and therefore it is now CUSTOM AND PRACTICE - that means that it is just as much a part of your contract as if it were written down in there that you work Sundays. If you refuse to work Sundays now, you are REFUSING TO WORK and refusing to work will get you sacked.
This to me is a prime example of where 'how it plays out at ET' is all too clear, so the OP's issue is given the wet blanket - when a little more exploration might reveal approaches to the problem which could resolve the OP's issue by a bit of workplace negotiationHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Total attendance 123.75 hours, max permitted working hours 96 per fortnight. So unless you get 27.75 hours of breaks per fortnight, this exceeds the Working Time Directive.
Are you getting at least 2.5 hours a day of breaks?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
