gabyjane be warned that I don't think you can put 3 childseats in the back of a Zafira and I don't know if you can fit them at all to the rear extra seats... better give it a try before you buy...

And don't the centre seats fold in a strange way, that makes it difficult to access the rear seats, if you have car seats strapped in?

It would be difficult to access the rear seats if child seats were in place for sure...

I've had my 1.9D Zaffie for four years now since new. I love the flexibility. Fold down the middle and rear seats and you can easily move fridges, washing machines, take loads of rubbish to the tip etc.

Then, for the occasional need when one of the kids has some pals, 7 seats! The two seats in the back aren't exactly armchairs but they're fine for adults for, say, up to an hour and for kids they're good all day. As others have said though, luggage space is minimal with the rear seats in use. You'll get some carrier bags in, that's about it.

I've had to have the alternator replaced six months out of warranty; apart from that it's been great. I wouldn't have a diesel again though, my travel profile changed just after I bought it and I don;t do the mileage I used to. It's a great engine though.

The only full size or compact MPV I would advise anybody to buy would be a Galaxy TDi, wouldn't touch the petrol 2.0 or V6, they are both money pits.

If you look around London or Essex, the vast majority of the minicabs and a lot of Hackney Carriages are TDi Galaxy's, with most being the later shape from 2001 on.

I have mates that have put 300k on theirs with just routine servicing, they have some faults, occasional DMF's, non functioning A/C and problems with the rear cabin heater, though most just disconnect it.

However there is a caveat with my recommendation, don't buy an ex Taxi or Minicab unless the seller is happy to say that it was used for that kind of work.

And I can confirm that you can't get three child seat in the back of a Zafira, you can in the Galaxy though.
I used to think the Zafira was agood vehicel but the amount of failures and breakdown we have had at work makes me think twice, though the new shape are worse than the old shape for some reason.

We have had gearboxes go, water pumps go, multiple engine blowups, as have Yorkshire Ambulance Service, theres being manual not Auto. Problems with vehicles going into limp mode, turbos going pop, gearboxs becoming jerky and slipping in second gear when the engine is cold.

If it was just one vehicle that we had I could put it down to a Friday afternoon car, but we have had over 300 of these, and every station has had problems, the quickest engine blow up was less than 10k, remember these are serviced every 2/3k.
  • I have been able to fit three booster seats in the old style Zaffy but it was a struggle so we did give up on the middle one for the eldest. I must admitthe one thing I didnt like was the lap belt and was glad the new model had a proper three belt.

  • I'm well satisfied with my Y reg Honda Stream. Was pleasantly surprised when it hit 80k miles to find it has a cam chain so no belt to change. Nice to drive too.

Tip to avoid being stranded with a dead car in the future - check this when buying the car because the interval for a belt can be a lot less than 80k miles :eek:

120K for our Jap imort Isuzu 4x4, but then again it isn't made from the cheap crappy plastic parts that most cars seem to be afflicted with these days.

Unless specified otherwise, I would personally treat 40K (or intervals of) as the starting point for considering a belt and tensioner change.

  • Vw Touran should be good for 7 seater or maybe an old merceded V Class or Vito
