which sat nav

I have just been looking at sat nav systems. What pointers do I need to look for? We travel on the continent a fair bit & want to explore towns, on foot, whilst abroad.
What draw backs on any equipment you have e.g. I saw/heard somewhere that you can get black spots in towns as tall buildings can interupt signal. All help would be appreciated.
Just been looking on Medion site which seems to come up with some very reasonable sat navs with a lot of scope - but I can't seem to find if you can update maps from the internet. I know I can ask on their site, but I want unbiased opinions which always seem to come from this site.

trying not to sound rude please have a look at this thread which is currently active http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=264928

also search this forum for satnav as this question has been asked lots of times and you may find the answer to your question
  • I appreciate the link, you don't need to be rude, I've tried searching about sat navs on here but it's a minefield of chit chat and really hard to find and threads with pure opinion on a piece of kit.

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/menu.php will be your best bet for reviews.

IMHO, TomTom 6 with the complete map of Western Europe is hard to beat.

Thanks bj-sailaway, and all other who replied - I must admit I thought the 1st comment was a bit rude also. Oh well it looks like I'll still have to tread carefully through the minefield.:confused:

how can suggesting you use the search forum sound a bit rude many questions HAVE been answered before, i also said so not take offfence, If people bothered to use the search facility many questions could be answered a lot more quickly,
  • Oh Lordy, I've chosen my words badly, I was responding to his remark about not being rude, and I meant it's not rude, because I've had trouble also! Sorry guys, I mustn't write snap responses whilst I'm meant to be working! Thanks for the directions though, they'll be most useful.

I'm not really interested in the bloomin' satnavs but have to find one for hubby's birthday. Really tiresome ploughing through the comparisons now! Now if it were handbags!!!!!
