My Sky+ box just has the standby light on and does not switch on. I have done all the normal things, power disconnection, rebooting but still the same.
Can any one suggest what I should do pls? I have lots of recorded program on that.

Phone Sky if the standard reboots don't work0

Yes I did, they said it will cost £65+ and then there is no guarantee they will fix it. There is so much experience here in th forum, I thought someone must have some tricks up their sleeves.

I had the same problem (but with Sky HD box) and I called Sky and told them it was not working. They said to pay for a call out but with no guarentees of fixing it.
I told them to cancel the whole package and I would go Freeview
They then put me through to someone else (probably working in customer retention). I got a free engineer visit 2 days later and he turned up with a new Sky + HD box at NO CHARGE :beer:0 -
we did the same just say the words "cancel subscription" and they'll send an engineer out for free0

Thanks Rainmaker, I may get the same option but it is the recorded program I am worried about, is there any way these can be retrieved?

Unfortunatly I don't think there is - we lost the lot...0 -
You will lose all your recorded programmes unfortunately, it has happened twice to us.
Is Sky cant repair your box they will replace it. (within the £65)
Good luck, hope they get you sorted.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
See the sticky at the top of this board for Sky digibox repairers. If it's just the PSU failing, then the recordings should still be quite safe on the hard drive after repair. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Given that it lights up, the PSU may not be the part that is failing.0

Now there is your dilemma, you can open the box and backup the contents of the hardware with the sky copy+ freeware app.
However opening your Sky box up WILL invalidate the warranty and make it more difficult to get a replacement box out of sky**.
If you go down the backup route you will need to open up your new box (warranty invalidation again) also you'll need to use the SAME viewing card the recording was originally made with (with a still valid subscription) to view your old recordings on the new box so if you end up with a new/different viewing card at the same time you might have problems.
**will be more straightforward if your box is already out of warranty as they won;t be able to quibble about it when changing your box for a workign one. Alsso if you splash out £50 or so on a hard drive you can upgrade your new machine to a 1TB hard drive version for a lot more recording space.
Link below to the copy+ website (forums there might be worth a try for ideas on bringing your sky box back to life -there is possibly a hard reset you can put it thru however as before might cost you all your recordings if you've not backed them up using copy+ first)
