As does the point made earlier that even two decades ago, a high earning couple could not afford to buy proper houses as FTB's without parental help.
So you seem to be advocating making it harder for FTB's now than it was two decades ago.
Interesting.
Whats that got to do with you getting a handout?
You couldn't afford. Got help. And then bought
For most FTB nowdays they cant get help. Therfore cant buy. So why mock them and rejoice in high prices?0 -

What's me getting a wedding present got to do with anything? You couldn't afford. Got help. And then bought.
Wrong.
We could afford to buy. Got a gift, and bought something a little better. Many of our peers could not afford to buy at all. Of those that did buy, most got help from parents.
It's no different then to what it is today. For most FTB nowdays they cant get help. Therfore cant buy. So why mock them and rejoice in high prices?
Wrong on so many levels.
Most FTB's nowadays get help. Around 80% from the stats I've seen.
In my day two decades ago, most of the people I know got help from parents to buy.
And FTB's today could buy without help, they'd just have to buy a smaller or cheaper place, as we would have had to in my day.
This whole line of attack from you is nothing more than shallow and petty politics of envy.
Some people get help buying, some people don't. Both sets of people have to cut their cloth to fit their budget. It's always been that way, and always will be.
Those that get help can afford to buy something bigger/better than those that don't get help.

What most people dont do however is take a handout from their parents because they cant afford to buy somewhere they consider suitable, and then spend half their lives on the internet mocking those who cant afford to buy somewhere they consider suitable unless they get a handout from somewhere.
Most people can pull enough together to buy a studio flat in a tower block, most people, like you did, decide that isnt any good so continue renting.
Some people want house prices to come down to get them what they want, you got a nice cheque from ma and pa.
Do you see now?0 -
I really don't see how any contributors personal circumstances are relevant to this thread.
IMO I don't see a crash coming, I see a year or two of negligible growth or loss. Stagnation, in other words.0 -
FTBFun... neither do i but their points are valid... Hamish constantly berates and belittles people who he deems 'silly' for waiting to buy and renting is dead money etc.
Constantly gloating about prices rising and how people have 'missed the boat'.... but it seems its a case of Hamish Bull popp mctamish.
Basically he says buy a 1 bedroom hovel and you will get there ma boy... but turns out mumm and daddy gave him x k to get him his 3-4 bedroom house straight off...
Thats all people are saying... he is full of it .. and quite a nasty character seen as he forgets his situations quite quickly and now he has a vested interest in proprty wants them to rise up in price so he can feel wealthy...0 -

Wrong again.
I don't mock people who can't afford to buy somewhere suitable.
I mock people who can afford to buy but instead troll the internet trying to create a big housing crash.
Or that had the opportunity to buy, but wanted the value of other peoples houses to fall by 50%, so chose not to buy, greedliy waiting for a crash that failed to materialise.
I mock those people a lot. Most people can pull enough together to buy a studio flat in a tower block, most people, like you did, decide that isnt any good so continue renting.
We could have afforded a nice flat or small house. It would have been perfectly suitable.
People today in our jobs in most areas could still afford the same.
What you crashers fail to realise is that most people could never afford the nice houses in the best areas as an FTB without help. Even two decades ago, as above average earners, dual income, no kids, we couldn't.
So for you to expect that to happen now is pure fantasy land stuff. Some people want house prices to come down to get them what they want.
Nonsense.
Crashaholics are trying to game the system by wishing for a recession, crash, misery mass unemployment and evictions/reposessions so they can "snap up a bargain".
Dress it up any way you like, it's a morally repugnant position.Do you see now?
I see you're still a bunch of whiners, with delusions as to how hard it has always been for everyone, and a complete failure to realise how lucky you have it compared to our generation.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

I am amazed at why people rise to his baiting.
Personally I dont care and I am not sure why people in general do.
For all we know it could just be one big act with out any truth in it0 -

I love you Hamish! :rotfl:
You just described yourself, just from a bull position, and yet fail to realise it!
Made me chuckle
Just don't go down the route of slagging people off eh. You never done that, and it's what I have always said I like about you. Always able to hold your position without the insults and always able ot join in with the banter. Please don't head down the insults path, as it seems you are recently, would be a shame0 -
Your day is nearly here....
I bought a few months ago, but made it clear I fully expected a further 25% drop in prices. Whether we get to see another 25% is yet to be seen, but I truly believe the next few months HPI data is going to be shocking, and will knock confidence when public sector bodies will be reducing staff numbers significantly. I reckon we will be 5% down from the "recovery" peak by christmas time, it will take another 2 years to hit the trough, but if you have been clever, saved a massive deposit and are chain free, your day is about to arrive...
For those like Hamish who are expecting aneasy retirement paid for by increasing house prices, tough luck YOU LOST!:rotfl:
Ok so, ignoring the spat that has gone on in this thread and also, that the OP appears to be enjoying dancing with glee on his own grave as a homeowner (congrats on your new home BTW!) Can I just ask:
How on earth does the middle para above - which is basically 'here is what I think based on some things I have read/feel in my water/choose to believe' - turn into FACT/a Victory dance by the last?
Just curious..Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0
