Use as little electricity as possible and you will be quids in, surely? Sounds like a very generous offer, usually they use the national average so in some cases (us at 5kwh a day) it would prove VERY expensive!0

move out for two weeks from the date they fit the new meterThrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

How can she tell the meter hasn't been working?
As previously said though it seems like a generous offer. Make the reading low, but not too low or they'll be suspicious.0 -

5KW? a day?
in 10 days weve used 168 day units @ 9p and 39 night units at 4p
total 207 units £16.68, TWENTY units a day!

Doing the estimation in September is a lot more advantageous than doing it in January-you should should be quids in!
But how long are they giving you to pay off the arrears? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Hi 1888
Sorry to hear about your situation. This is why we recommend to customers to check the meter readings we use to bill the account with those actually showing on the meter.
Like you have been advised, doing an average over two weeks in September will work out in your favour as you will certainly use more on the night rate over the colder months. We can only back bill your account 12-months to ensure that we comply with the Energy Retail Associations Code of Practice for Accurate Billing.
Have you been with SP for a long time? If so and you are unhappy with the consumption proposed, you could ask that we review the consumption on the meter before it stopped recording.
Let me know if you have any further questions and I will be happy to help.
Kind Regards

Your regular payments will certainly be used to offset any amount owed.
But the regular amounts amounts paid may or may not cover the cost of the consumption they consider you have actually used.
Also, whilst the 12 month back billing policy may apply, it would only apply insofar as it won't allow the supplier to charge you any extra for a period exceeding 12 months before they were aware of the error. Unfortunately that does mean the fact you've already possibly paid for consumption before that 12 month limit doesn't mean you'll get it refunded."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
To be honest it sounds like you are being treated fairly, its not your fault but its not the companies fault either. I believe they would err on the side of caution with the estimated usage as its just begging for a complaint and, when push comes to shove, they can never know what you have used in that period.
