Missed payment/ Sky

I cancelled my Direct Debt for Sky, do they apply a charge if they can not take payment?

Yes, and they'll also probably make you pay 2 months in advance in future rather than one month. Murdoch takes no prisoners.
You need to give 30 days notice if you want to cancel your service.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

OMG, never ever cancel a direct debit, without first communicating with them. I naively did this in the 90's and got threatening letters even mentioning legal action to reclaim due monies!

I thought it was another DD I was doing, decided to pay with payment card. As keeping trach of Direct Debt dates etc is a nightmare. Then the bank charge of 25.00 .

Ok, sorry, you didn't say that in OP - thought you were cancelling sky by a back-door.

:) Tempting as it is, already have a default that is up in a few years. So do not wish to add to it.

If you do it correctly there should be no additional charges. I cancelled my Sky+ with multiroom after 10 years with Sky because of their obsession with treating us all like cash cows to take money from whenever it suits them.
My payment fell due on the 17th so I phoned on the 16th and told them I was giving them the required note of termination which allowed them to take the payment due on the 17th for the following month.
I also explained that I would be cancelling the direct debit on the 18th (which I did) and heard no more from them.
I bought I Foxsat HDR box which is way classier that a Sky+ box and can honestly say I have not missed the crappy progs from Sky.
