Tree in Garden maybe on its last legs.

Hi there can anybody help.

We have a tree at the bottom of our garden which if above we have to pay for removal.

The thing is we just dont have that sort of money to have it removed.

Is there a way we can get it removed without an horrific cost?

Or is it poss that it is just some of the branches that are dead if so can we cut them off ourselves?

thank you for your help!

Paul
have no fear go ahead and do it!!

if it is the subject of a tree preservation order you need to contact your local council.

If not ,it is your possession on your property so you can do what you like with it. Do consider whether cutting branches off a weak trunk will cause it to weaken further. Also be aware of damage to neighbouring properties for which you would be liable.

I had a similar issue with a large Leylandii.
I was quoted £350 for removing it which i thought was nuts.

So I cut off all the branches from the bottom to the top one at a time.

I then cut off managable (read liftable) sections of the trunk and ended up with a pile of wood in the garden.

Took most of the day but i was still 350 quid better off.

Next door took some for a wood burning stove they had and the rest was disposed of. Its possible to DIY removal but you have to keep safety in mind all the time.

Forgot to mention all i had was an electric saw and manual saw so a lot of effort was involved but given the cost i was inspired :)

We removed a large conifer this year. My OH removed a lot of the branches and then when it got to the thick part which needed more than a saw, our son brought his power saw thingy round and cut down the rest. You can hire these from tool hire shops and it will be a lot cheaper than getting someone in to do it. On the subject of just removing some branches, if you do it carefully and try to keep a nice shape it should start to look better unless it is suffering from some severe problem.
