Urgent Help please to cancel Sky Contract

I have recently (2.5 months ago) entered into a new SKY Contract upgraded to HD. The installation engineer did not install the box or test signal as I was on the phone on a conference call at the installation time. He left instructions for me to do it.

I did this, one of the input cables is not working , this has never worked and I now want to cancel with sky and move to virgin. We have to watch the programme we want to record as opposed to being able to watch a programme whilst recodring two others. Planner is useless for recording also as unless you are on the channel to record on, the recording fails.

I did inform sky at the time that it was not working (through a call to the installation engineer (he left his mobile number)) he said he would pop round in next couple weeks to replace the cable, he didnt, 1 month later I called sky, they sent an engineer around who said the installation wasnt done properly and that he had no time to fix it, he would arrange a new visit , nothing happened. He left his number and I called him acouple of times and the original engineer also. no joy.

I now want to cancel; Sky say I am in a contract and cannot cancel, they are putting a hard stop on me cancelling. I have said to them that thier service is not and has never been fit for purpose and the contract has never been fulfilled by them, so I have the right to cancel from my end. They refuse to let me and I have now said that I am cancelling my direct debit with them.

They said they will send another engineer around now to fix the problem, but I dont want them anymore its now a couple of months later and they have proven to me they provide a bad service which I dont want.

Am I ok to do this, can they take me to court ? I am now nervous and feel like they have me over a barrel, even though they have never provided the service for which we entered into a contract.

help pleaaase.

Thanks.

    Email the CEO jeremy.darroch@bskyb.com

Just tell him politely what your problems have been and that you now want to cancel because of them. By the way don't cancel the DD just yet or you will get your credit score into a mess.
  • Thanks for the advice; I will email him now; Will let you know how I get on.

    Best Regards
  • Thanks very much for the advice Jem16, that worked perfectly.

I emailed the Sky address that you supplied and the attitude was completely different.

I recieved a phone call the following day and they politely asked if I would stay; When I said that I wanted to leave, they cancelled my contract immediately.

Thanks again for the good advice. :T
