  • Becky, if you're cracked and sore it sounds like she's not positioned brilliantly which could also mean she's not getting as much milk as she should, leading to more frequent feeding. Have you tried different positions? If you can get through the night tonight, give the number in my signature a call. You will be put through to a lovely lady who (hopefully) should be local to you and she will have gone through it all herself... She'll be fully trained in supporting over the telephone and she'll be able to help with your positioning and getting it more comfortable for you :) (she should also be able to let you know what support is available in your local area...)

Have some ((hugs)) for tonight :)

Becky.. To add to Krystals advice.. if they are not positioned properly and not getting enough milk they will often tug and rag about on the nipple which also doesn't help.. definitely try lansinoh.. it is amazing stuff, mine were sore and cracked and not healing but a couple of days with this and they were good as new.. your local surestart may have peer supporters who can offer advice on your latch and other feeding positions which may help. A baby should not need (in theory but they don't all read the book!) to be feeding for an hour. Mine was constantly attached and when i thought about it she was having 5-10 minute feeds so was simply not getting enough hindmilk so I was evil and forced her to go 2 hours at least before offering her a feed.. suddenly she was much more settled with 20 minute feeds every 2-3 hours. Hope you get sorted..

cross-posted.. does she have thrush? or has she had it? the stabbing pain you describe sounds VERY much like the pain I had when I had thrush on my nipples.. do they look shiny and pink and smooth?? (on the non-scabby bits)

No idea Em, but good morning to you!

Rotten day already here, Molly woke for the day at 6:30 and Husbeast brought her into bed with us. She lay on her back and deliberately kicked me in the head as hard as she could, both heels slamming down on my head - and he had to stop her because she was lining up to do it again  And Husbeast is now getting the lie in after I did the 3am waking and feeding and resettling  AND we have MMR today :(

Oh no, you must be shattered :( good luck for the jabs later though. We had no reaction here except for me getting a dose of measles after the nurse squirted the vaccine all over my arm and had to get another for S, hopefully you'll be as lucky with Molly. And that your nurse isnt an imbecile...

I will not be accepting a dose of measles, and neither should you have  That's awful.

Our doctor has a policy where he takes the kid to the table and parents stand well back, so the baby doesn't see them while the vaccination is happening but they can swoop in for the comforting - that way they're associated with the good bit afterwards but not the nasty bit IYSWIM. I think it's quite sensible, although all the vaccinations so far have made me cry as much as Molly.

I've just been doing research about virus shedding because my 31-weeks-pregnant friend is here on Friday and I didn't want Molly passing on live vaccines, but I've found loads of badly spelled unreferenced comments saying it's dangerous and three vaccination information websites offering peer-reviewed studies to show that it's ok.

Edit: AND I have enough to redeem another bingo £5!!!

Em - I saw your post last night (just incase you thought you were going mad!) and it wasn't offensive IMO your just being cautious.

SS - poor you, hope the jabs go ok for miss M x

beckyandjack - I went thru a period of T not latching properly and it being really uncomfy to feed so I was in tears. Someone on here recommended the rugby hold position and I used that for a few weeks and it deffinatley helped, it didnt work miracles but just T latching in a different spot eased the soreness making it more bearable untill Ts latch got better.

Well its definatley getting colder here, T woke everytime I tried to move her back to her cot last night, so she spent most of the time in with us cos I was too tired to go dig out a sleeping bag. She was happy tho and did sleep in till her more acceptable time of 7.40 :D Should hopefully be getting the leak repaired today once and for all, am so fed up of having to turn the water on and off at the mains every time you need it.

Hope you can ring that number and get some support today with the breast feeding Becky. Keep trying but don't feel guilty if you decide it is best to give up and use formula. Sometimes these things don't work out the way we want them to and you need to do what is best for you and baby, regardless of what anyone else says.

SS - sorry to hear you've had a rubbish night. Hope the MMR goes ok.

Pants night sleep here too. IBS was playing up and I've had awful pains in the night, but it's not so bad this morning.

It's Charlotte's first day at nursery today. She's going every weekday afternoon from 12.30pm - 3.30pm. I don't want her to go :o
Here I go again on my own....
