Are you actually logged in on as administrators account?:idea:0
-
I have no idea!
I'm the only user of the laptop so I've always just assumed I am the administrator? How do I know if I am or not?
It lets me "run as administrator" if I right click but I'm guessing this isn't the same thing?Never look down on anybody unless you are helping them up.0 -
Almost certainly are then
Youd know for sure by going to START (Bottom left) and CONTROL PANEL then open USER ACCOUNTS
Mine says my account name and ADMINISTATOR (I think vistas is the same ~ im on windows 7):idea:0 -

Yes, I am the administrator.
I've done the windows fix and rebooted. Should I now try the HostsXpert again?Never look down on anybody unless you are helping them up.0 -
If the 'fix it' has worked then there should be no reason to run HostsXpert
Do you still have the initial problem of redirects?
Whether you do or not ~
Please run COMBOFIX
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
Shut down your anti virus
Follow the simple instructions it gives
Post the COMPLETE log it creates here (Split into sections if need be) ~ if there are loads of 'SNAPSHOT' pages then leave them out
If it comes up with a RENAMING error then RIGHT click the exe file and RENAME and call it QWERTY (Making the complete file name 'QWERTY.exe') Or SAVE as 'QWERTY' on download
(If no log comes up or you lose it, COMBOFIX.TXT can be found in C drive):idea:0 -
When I click the Run button, it appears to be doing it fine. However, when the green bar gets to the end it just closes. It doesn't open up another prompt box to let me install it.
An I doing something wrong?Never look down on anybody unless you are helping them up.0 -
combofix doesnt 'install'
It just runs. Double click the 'combofix.exe' file to get it running:idea:0 -
Doh, sorry! Will give it a bash now and let you know how I get on.Never look down on anybody unless you are helping them up.0

It's not working - although it's probably something I'm doing or not doing as the case may be!
When I try to save it to C: a "Destination Folder Access Denied" message comes up saying "you'll need to provide administration permission to copy to this file".
I click the continue button and it then says "you need permission to perform this action"Never look down on anybody unless you are helping them up.0
