I want to have another SKY+ box in another room but I am being asked for £269 by SKY for this to be done. If I buy a box and connect it to the dish (LNB) can I then ring SKY and ask for a card to activate the box, I realise that I need to have connected to same telephone line I just think £199 for a new SKY box is extortion. I also know that there will be a £10 per month additional charge

  • You've got it right.

There should be 2 spare ports on the LNB. Just run the 2 cables into the other room and get yourself another box. Then ring Sky and tell them you want multiroom but only need a card.

Nothing much to add to the above post. Its quite simple job to do. The connectors are easy to fit on the ends of the cable and its well within the realms of DIY.
  • The main point is that I fitted the Quad LNB and ran the cables for the first box but wondered what response I would get from Sky if I just told them I needed another card for multiroom. I'll proceed as you suggest, just hope that you are right.

Make sure that the cable ends at the LNB are watertight, amalgamating tape is the best option to waterproof them.
  • I dont know whether I have already posted this because my typing appears to have disappeared into the ether BUT as I fitted the Quad LNB and ran the cables forr the first box I am happy to do it again, my worry was that if I did it that Sky would not let me have an additional viewing card.
  • Yes I have a roll of amalgamating tape. Thanks.

As you've said the new box will be plugged into the phone line and you'll be paying the £10/month for multiroom. There should be no issues from Sky.
