  • Only just registered on this site so hello to everyone and a big thank you for the help we have got from this thread. I too had the misfortune to get one of the helploan letters and one of the threatening letters from intrum justitia. I have done a credit check, informed the police and spoken to intrum justitia (this seemed to be a call centre abroad). One thing that was on my credit check was an address from whoever has applied for the loan. The address is Nickelby Close in London (even though I live in Bolton), has anyone else had this address added to their credit check ? Thank you again for all the help.

Hi Woodster - welcome to the thread. It's a bit of a relief when you find all the others involved, and that you haven't been singled out. What you've said about the London address is interesting - I haven't seen reference to this before. Might be worth telling this to AF who should then pass the info to NFIB. The main data MCO has obtained either directly or indirectly from ID fraud loan applicants seems to be name, address and DOB (in many cases incorrect). This information is available in the public domain once you know where to look. So I think the problem is specific to this loan scam. I'm not saying dont be vigilant about ID theft, but dont worry too much that someone has stolen your ID. I don't think anyone has posted (yet) that a completely independent ID incident has happened to them.

Geomac l - You really need that space between the c and l because the font that this forum uses blends them into a d! I thought it was my partial vision but now someone else has done it too.

It might just have happened to me but I had a seperate instance of fraud commited on my current account the day before the MCO searches appeared on my Experian record. Might not be linked and prompt action by Lloyds (kudos to them, for a change) stopped it going any further. But someone somehow blagged their way through phone banking and withdrew £350 from my current account. I got it back but I am not convinced that the two things aren't linked.

As grahamqat says, it is important that you advise AF about the spurious address on your CRA credit check (which CRA was it - Experian?). I don't think that the IJ call centre is abroad as such - it's just Liverpool, which most of us would consider "abroad" - sorry to Liverpudlians - I just couldn't resist!!!

For grahamqat - I tried to change my login name but failed miserably - so geomacl it will have to remain!!!

If that's connected David it is a bit of a worry- surely though an ID fraudster would need more than name/address/DOB to take money from your account?

Hmmm - about 6 months before this attack by MCO etc. I had an attempted fraud on my credit card but the credit card company (not telling!!) were quick to respond:T - net result is that the card was voided and I had to get a new card (only benefit of this is that it stopped my wife from using her card for a few days!!)

Well they'd need my current account number and branch but apart from that it's fairly common to have phone banking fraud attempts. With Lloyds you have a password and they ask you for a couple of the letters or numbers from it. Apparently the fraudsters ring up a few times until they work out from their guesses what the answers are. Needless to say I have now blocked phone banking on my account and got all my cards reissued and my passwords all changed.

As I say possibly not a connection but a strange co-incidence nonetheless.
  • Thank you Graham for your kind welcome .. it has made me feel a lot better that other people are having the same problems and that people are trying to help each other... Just a thought has anyone contacted Watchdog about what must be a huge worrying scam, I worry for the weak and vulnerable who have been sent these letters, something should be done to protect people from these scummy scammers.

Today I have received a demand from Intrum Justitia as they have been instructed by MCO capital to commence recovery action of £726.00. The envelope has a Harlow returns post code on the reverse the same as my original letter from MCO Capital.

Surely this must be all one big con, they must all be in it together. Any further advice please is most welcome. They say they MAY instruct a solicitor or send a debt collector. Advice please on my rights if a person calling themselves a debt collector calls. Thank you.

    Hi Mike,

It sounds like I've had the same nasty letter as you today from IJ (the earlier Helploan letters were posted from Liverpool though). My letter was dated 19th Oct-just a week after the 2nd one from Helploan.
I'd written to IJ earlier in the week, but have also now rung them. The chap I spoke to said that he'd close the account and - once they'd received my letter - would pass the details onto their Fraud Dept. He also said that I shouldn't hear any more about it, but both in the letter & on the phone I asked for written confirmation of closure.

It remains a total mystery as to why these letters are still being sent out - surely they should have stopped by now.
One concerning observation - AF web site is saying that it's no longer necessary to contact them to report this "You no longer need to report false loans related to MCO through to Action Fraud"
Why is this? It implies that by contacting MCO/IJ the police will be notified - why should we trust this route as we are victims of MCO!!? And letters are still being issued by MCO/IJ.
Makes no sense!!! Time to call AF methinks!!
