Hi Oldbloke, yes we did have a bit of banter to break up the serious stuff. Nothing offensive! I expect it will get quieter on this forum until we find out anything new. I will post anything I find out. Happy sailing.

    Hi guys,

I don't know, I go away sailing, and come back and there's all this exclamation mark, punctuation thing going on....

Anyway, like colinho, I'm just keeping an eye on the thread now. I think this MCO saga will just melt away; we'll probably hear no more about it, which will be disappointing considering the effort we've put in.....so I'd just like to say thanks to all of you for your posts, they've been a great read!
Hi Sailor!! Good to know that you're keeping an eye on us. We miss your words of wisdom!

Forum has had 23902 hits at the time of writing - amazing!!! There must still be people out there looking for support??

HI goemacl - yes that's a lot of views. Like you say, might be people out there yet to log on. AF reckon 10,000+ people affected by the scam. Watch this space!
  • Thanks all for info.

I have just fired the following off to experian:

Can I ask that given the scale of the fraud going on with MCO that you do not wait for their reply but simply remove the unauthorised search from my record. I expect to hear from you in the next few days confirming that this has been done.

I am actually very unhappy about the fact that you have given out my personal information to an organisation without ensuring that it is a request authorised by me. It appears that you are prepared to give out sensitive information simply based on a request which includes my name / address and date of birth. On the search record it says I have been at my address for 3 months - which does not match your records.

As I understand it your actions are probably in breach of the data protection act.

It is still unclear whether MCO itself is the perpetrator of fraud but even if it is a victim it is facilitating fraud against others and it would be reassuring to hear that you are no longer performing credit searches for this organisation as you have plenty of evidence that they are not taking sufficient care.

The fact that you get an income stream both from the unauthorised searches and from the victims who then sign up to your paid services is something I find very worrying. At the very least you should be offering free services to those of us you have compromised by undertaken searches without ensuring they are authorised.

Hi Paul, good letter. It probably raises all the issues everyone is thinking about. Problem is you may have to deal with all the credit agencies to get MCO off your database, unless MCO only deal with that one. Dont forget to post the reply if you get one - it will be of interest to many people here.

Yes and hopefully they are getting good advice from you guys and will lodge a report with Action Fraud - the more people who do that, the more likely the Fraud Intelligence Bureau will be able to work out what has been going on.

The lady I spoke to at Action Fraud told me that MCO had only dealt with Experian - not sure how she knew that. I am checking with the three major agencies just to make sure.

This is quite a racket Experian have got going for themselves, isn't it? I decided I didn't want a free trial of their Credit Expert rubbish and then have to cancel so I paid £2 for a report. I've now got questions about the report and they won't talk to me on the phone unless I sign up for that nonsense. Outrageous is how I would describe that.

    Cheers,

  • It's really just another scam. These CRA's collect info on you that they shouldn't have in the first place. They then allow third parties to corrupt it and charge you for the privilege of putting it right! We never needed any of these parasitic bodies a rew years ago, and they didn't stop the "Credit Crunch" from happening.

Agree with you 100%. Imagine the business Experian is getting as a result of this - I'm sure plenty of people will be signing up for their full service. I have gone for the £2 report as well but I'm not sure whether there's any way how to contact them if anything amiss shows up (the report hasn't come yet so I don't know what's on it).
