So not content with upsetting many people caught out by this fraud, a spokesperson for MCO then tries to annoy us even more by suggesting it was partly our fault for ignoring these letters?!
This guy must be a prized idiot, how many emails for instance do we ignore every day as they are obviously spam. My parents have even received letters in the post that read exactly like spam emails saying there is unclaimed monies in some overseas account they can have if they send x amount of money. So its hardly surprising when a letter drops through the front door saying money is owed on a loan we havent even taken out that it is dismissed as another con.
And if MCO are a ligitimate credit loans company, why was it less than a week after the 2nd letter arrived that the 3rd letter from IJ was delivered, even when the fraud had been reported to AF after the second letter. And this is without mentioning all the anomalies other people mention on here that MCO didnt spot.
Desperate company trying to get sympathy and blame everyone else but themselves and the scammers for losing millions. But then seeing how much help our authorities have been so far, they have probably worked out that the Police/Government would rather take MCO's side than that of the British public.
  • Good detective work, guys. It really looks like MCO Capital can't muster a single person from among their own ranks. Adrian Kibbler seems to be the Max Clifford of payday loan companies!

I doubt it Eaglemar, he's just doing his job as the PR/crisis management front for MCO and is very likely expected to be well paid for it.

I would imagine the key objectives will be to divert attention from MCO as the obvious perpetrators (and their slack security, or whatever) and to shift as much blame elsewhere if possible ... even onto those who innocently got 'loan' letters. Unfortunately they have strong grounds here to exploit - in the eyes of the authorities they are the ones who have been defrauded (not us) and have suffered financial losses. This will provide a powerful argument to bolster MCO's damaged credibility if the rest of the details can be kept surpressed, diverted or swept under the carpet.

I wonder if a PR/crisis management strategy could also extend to trying to influence opinion on this and any other public forum to give a more favourable and positive face to MCO? Perhaps some of those posting on here are not always giving an honest, unbiased and/or personal opinion ...

Echo your words here Pru... Good detective work from many posters. As it seems increasingly clear that MCO have no personnel in the UK, it would be nice to know who the MCO people are who "are co-operating with the Police". I'm sure the authorities will be looking at this forum so here's a big chance to communicate with us all and tell us who these mystery beings are or the office where all this co-operating is going on?

Hi Jahman - take your point about taking reciprocal legal action. If you are thinking about this seriously (and why not, we all now need compensation, as the TV adverts constantly remind us), try to see if your solicitors might be able to represent a lot of us (10,000) collectively on a no win no fee basis? I'm in (like you I'm rippin'), anyone else please let us know what you think.
  • Hi all

Thx for all the advice - I am now on the 4th letter despite having followed all the advice here and AF guidance - received on 28th October (sent 22 October from IJ). There may be some Helploan staff in Liverpool in the same building as IJ.

Hi S Annoyed - welcome to the forum.
Have you contacted IJ - either by telephone (at their 0844 number), emailed them and/or written to them at their Liverpool address?
Most of us who have contacted IJ by whatever means have had their file blocked and have not heard anything since! <touch wood>.

Thanks for your contributions, Robie. Silver's article was eventually found on page 3 of the Money section of the Sunday Times - according to James it was cut from 1000 words to 350 and it didn't really add anything. He's trying for a more insightful article in the Mail or the Times this week!

Until I can add something more meaningful on progress, don't expect anything else from me. I am not here to put forward any views on behalf of MCO as some posters think; neither do I want to get into a prolonged debate with posters about how this case has been handled by MCO, its agents and spokesmen and their like. In answer to a specific attack in that I don't understand how this has affected people - yes I do. I had my bank account cleared out with cloned cards a couple of years ago and know perfectly well the misery, hassle that financial fraud causes. Finally don't expect any revelations on how I am involved in this case; take it that I am. If you don't like that - sorry.

To re-iterate the points I have raised. MCO are being treated as the victims in this case. Anyone whose identity has been used will be treated as a witness. In these circumstances it is likely that the police will require statements on the lines of "I never made a loan application from MCO; I never received £300; I have never opened a bank account with the Bank of Toytown" from witnesses. When I stated this would lead to a paper mountain in an ideal world, every person who has had their identity filched should be visited to tender that statement. In the real world only certain people will be seen depending on where the investigation goes. The thrust of this will be where the identities came from in the first place and where the money ended up at the end. Those of you expecting something from City of London Police are likely to get an acknowledgement and that will be about it.

As and when I hear something positive that I can release I'll let this forum know.

I'm not surprised you're annoyed, Annoyed - the 'hired' Helploan spokesman on MoneyBox last Saturday said no more letters would be sent out. MoneyBox asked people who continued to receive letters to contact the programme directly so you may want to do that (Google 'Radio 4 Moneybox' to find out how to contact the show).

Meanwhile you should definitely phone IJ - this seems to be an important factor in getting the letters stopped.
