This question is as wooly as a back combed wooly mammoth.
Best places to visit, well apart from the obvious vatican, spanish steps, trevi fountain, how can anyone say what the best places are to visit? You may have a keen interest in modern architecture or not therefore any recommendations are a tad futile.
Good hotels? Are you a millionaire or a pauper? the answer to this question will effect the goodness of the hotel.
If you can say what kind of things you are into and what kind of money you want to spend people can cater their answers to you.
On a side note rome is stunning and when we went in Oct it was lovelly and warmLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
I think it's one of Ryanair's better destinations as the transfer from the airport into the city is cheap and not too long. A bus goes from the airport to the nearest Metro station and then the underground goes all the way into Terminus without any changes. When I went, the bus was a couple of Euros (but I think you pay extra if you need to put your bags/cases in the luggage space) and the underground was one euro. Such a difference from Paris where you feel you've only done half the journey when you land at Beauvais!0

It was a generic question, where I hoped people had been to Rome previously would share their experiences of hotels, places visited etc. None the less, thank you for your most 'helpful' contribution!0 -
But how can you ask a general question and expect a specific answer?
Whereas you may not find my post helpful maybe it will make you realise that your questions are un-answerable.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
Not cheap, but a fantastic hotel overlooking the Pantheon, Albergo Del Senato. Take a tour with Angel Tours, all Irish staff, wonderful, and you get to skip the lines at the Vatican. Pop over to Slow Travel and have a look at their hotel/Restaurant reccomendations they are usually very helpful.

Read my post above for clarification! I was not looking for a specific answer, but rather an indication of the experiences of others who may have visited here.
I am having difficulty realising that my questions are unanswerable, as there are now a number of posts giving answers to my questions !0 -

If you told us what your budget is, and what your interests are then that would at least allow the right people to making an objective posting, and save the wrong people from wasting their time!
If I were you I'd look at the Rome forum on Trip Advisor. It's got an excellent search facility, and you can interrogate it as you please.0 -

If you travel earlier in the month you can get it down to 870 Euro. I said it wasn't cheap, great hotel though, we had the room with the balcony overlooking the Pantheon:D0
