Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. • I am slightly more than irritated by a deception practised by The Daily Express and ASDA.
I refer to the free sample vouchers printed in the Express, redeemable at ASDA.
Twice, now, I have tried to take advantage of such offers, only to find that the ASDA that I visited didn’t stock the product but did stock an own brand product that was almost identical in appearance.
OK! I would have bought the paper, anyway, and I do often shop at ASDA and I have lost nothing.
However, I resent any attempt to deceive me and I feel sure that both The Daily Express and ASDA have benefitted from some increase in sales, from younger, less wary, or more hurried members of the public, which also irritates my sense of justice.
The excuse given at the ASDA that I frequent (Golborne) is that it is too small and that the offer might be available at the Hypermarket, across town (Wigan).
This is a poor defence. The Express doesn’t say that only the Hypermarkets will accept the voucher. The Golborne ASDA is large enough to stock electrical goods and its own “George” clothing section, so a 1 metre length of shelf space for this Exciting free offer is not implausible.
The makers of the advertised products should also feel aggrieved, because, although they are getting the advertising, they are having their customer base stolen by those duped into mistakenly purchasing ASDA’s own brand version.
  • tescos do that too, you often cant exchange their vouchers at express stores.

I do understand your flustration..especially if you have travelled to a perticular store to redeem the voucher..ive done it myself too only to be told at 9.30am that they have run out of the item or dont stock it....having said that I still do quite well out of the free gifts...I find my local superdrug very good..and as I usually buy my weekend paper from whsmith I always ask for the free gift if they are the participating retailer...in the last few weeks I have been lucky to get the water, superdrug toner and cleanser, disposable BBQ and several bars of chocolate....I guess I havent done too bad considering I would normally purchase the paper
