Old Style Daily Thread Saturday 4th September 2010

Hi there! This is the Old Style Daily Thread for 4th September 2010. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier![*]As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.[*]When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.[*]Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just fine.

Good Morning :T

Hope this finds you all well and happy today.

Im back from my few days at Center Parcs and we all had a wonderful time - even my party lovin eldest son took to riding his bike and swimming like he did when he was 7 years old. We had lovely accommodation and it was like a scene from Bambi every morning as the birds and animals came to feed every morning. I spent a lot of time relaxing and watching the antics of two squirrels whilst my kids and their dad went off and did lots of activities such as falconry and paintballing in the woods. Then we all came back together to eat and talk. We really bonded as a family and I felt very very blessed particularly as the weather was brilliant!!

Anyway back to earth with a bump today as have to pay some bills, work out my budget and catch up on the washing which is positively Appalachian in its size! We have just invested in a new washing machine as mine has been limping on for a few months with kids dad keeping it going but its making some very interesting noises now and I cant put it on overnight as it wakes the whole house:eek: Its on pre-order so hopefully I will get the holiday washing done before it gives up the ghost completely.

I have to go to Leicester today for my MRI/MRA scan which Im not looking forward to :( On the positive side we are picking up the dogs and Guineas on the way home so the house will feel back to normal soon:T I have been reading Lame Wolf's troubles with her two Westie friends and it does sound like they have been spoiled  They are incredibly inquisitive in nature and so that needs to be channelled - hope they are behaving themselves now x

Hugs my OS friends xx

    Morning molly41 & everyone else

Haven't read the last few days' threads, so lots of hugs, kisses and congrats to whoever needs some!:kisses3::grouphug:

Up early with baby about half an hour ago, dark enough to need the lights on! Everyone else still asleep, but will have to be up soon, cos there's lots to do - DH off to work, littlies & I to town (birthday present & card plus bits of food for weekend), DS has essay to finish, I'm going to work this afternoon, huge pile of ironing to do, I could go on, but you get the idea....! :(

It's a bit grey here just now, but think it'll clear up & be nice & sunny like the last few days - hope so as I've loads of washing to do! :D

Think tea will be freezer surprise as there are all sorts of things to use up. :D

Off for the first cuppa of the day, enjoy your Saturday mornings, hope to pop in later on. :)

I'm awake stupidly early for a Saturday, will head back to bed in a bit to doze for a bit. It's a bit cloudy now but looks like it will brighten up, rather chilly though! WM is on, I've tidied kitchen and emptied DW so not a bad start.
Oh I'd kill for some "me" time :o I love it when Flutterby describes her weekends, doing a bit of cooking, reading books or trashy mags and then going for a walk - sounds heavenly!

:rotfl: I'd love a bit of family time, with a hubby, kids and a dog! But whilst I'm still young and single I intend to enjoy my time!

I'm meeting girls for lunch and shopping later. I start uni again next week so need to go stationary shopping :j:j I love stationary shopping :o. Need to return books to library too. I'm meant to be going out for wither drink or cinema with my friend tonight, but she is the flakey one so wh knows if we will go out or not.

    Have a good day all

    x

ps - for those who didn't see my post on yesterday's thread, my friend is ok, op went to plan.

  • Good Morning All

Molly - Good Luck with the scan today
Flutterbyuk25 - I too love stationary shopping - never happier than when I am in Paperchase :rotfl:

Woke up early before the alarm this morning - seem to have got back into routine very quickly.

Need to wake up DS in a minute who is off to a football tournement today - luckily his manager is taking him as I need to go into work with OH to sort out a lorry. DD has her last day at her library job today & my sister is taking her in for me.

Just about to get dressed, make DS' packed lunch and head out. Luckily we are passing a Starbucks :D

Other than that it will be a pottering day. DD is having a friend over for tea so think will pick up some Pizza's from Asda for dinner. One think I will do today is go through the freezers and do a proper menu plan.

Very misty start here so looks like is going to be lovely later :j have a great day all.x

We ought to arrange a swap then for a few hours - you can have my husband and kids and I'll have your flat and your view for a few hours - sorry no dog though (as much as I'd love one it's not condusive to CM'ing) :rotfl:

I love Stationery shopping :D Going into WH Smith or somewhere similar is a bit like !!!!!! for me, get all excited at the sight of new pens and pencils and lovely fresh, smooth note pads.........:o

Moving swiftly on before I embarass myself further :rotfl: plans for today are to make some chicken pies. FIL dropped off a YS cooked chicken last night and have some frozen pastry to use. My H is off to work for a bit so might take the kids to see my mum.
Have the usual washing and ironing and bit of cleaning to squeeze in although the latter I might leave til Monday when DS is at school and there is just me and DD left.

Me and H are off out to the cinema later and perhaps a bite to eat afterwards :D

Molly - Sounds like you had a lovely holiday. Shame about the washing machine x

Hugs for those that need them. Have a wonderful Saturday OS or not.

    Morning All

Not managed to post all week but have been reading through each day. It seems to be about 10pm when I get to the laptop and then I'm too tired to think!

Congrats to Taplads, hope all goes well!
Flutterby - hope your friend pulls through this, it sounds horrid but sending get well wishes.
Molly, glad you enjoyed your holiday.

Had a funny week, DD (18) had a major strop when I asked to borrow the car. She had a point as DS2 is using the other car and only pays for his fuel and she has paid for the other car for the past few months. Didn't wait for me to say I could see her point and had a bit of a tantrum!!! Couldn't believe it. Anyway, all sorted now. DS1 and GF seem to be having a bit of a rough time, GF not been well but they are being a bit reclusive. I have offered my help/listening ear but they are deciding to keep it to themselves. Just hope they are ok.

Bought a new push bike on Wednesday but not been out on it yet. Will now have to use it more for work so I can justify the cost. I have two other bikes that I have put in the paper so that should recoup some of the cost. I wanted a rack on the back of the new one and cheekily asked if they would put it on and include it in the price and they did! That saved about £25 so I was quite happy.

OS wise I have done so much washing in the past few days that there can't be anything dirty in this house. All the beds have been done, including the mattress protectors (some only just fit in the machine) and all the ironing is up to date. Came in from work yesterday and gutted the kitchen and gave everywhere else a quick dust and hoover so all good in that department.

Having a peaceful weekend, DS2 has gone away with old Uni to teach for a week on a field trip and DD gone to BF house down south for the weekend. Just hoping no-one calls round as I would like a day to myself (how selfish!).

Hugs to anyone who needs/wants one and have a good weekend. XX

    Morning all,

Was shattered last night and had a fairly early night, slept so well, did not even hear OH coming up to bed, so this morning I am like this :j, just having a cuppa and a browse, first load is in the wm, with two more to go in, will get it all hung out in a while, should dry nicely today.

OH and I will try to finish the skirting in the spare room today, the wallpaper man came yesterday, and I have to say I am not completly happy with him, he was great last time, and did a brilliant job, but he was only here an hour yesterday, and it looks like he has rushed it, one whole strip of paper is coming away down one edge, and a corner is hanging off, he was a nice chap, and he is desperate for work, I had asked him to quote for my hall landing and stairs before, and he kept asking when we were getting that done, but I won't be asking him now, makes me .

Dinner tonight is hm soup, which I will go and make in a while, it will be lentil based, with whatever else I can find in the fridge, I will start it off on the hob, then shove it in the sc, need to get some crusty bread out from the freezer too.

Can I ask what anyone used to treat their leather sofas ? ours is fairly new (to us ) and looks like it needs something on it iynwim.

Right better crack on, have good days all xx

I really fancied a lie in this morning as the last week at work has been manic, unfortunately hubby had other ideas & brought me up a cuppa at 6am, still he didn't expect me to get out of bed so I can't complain! Something to do with him being able to sleep with a light on but not with a **** on. He's now asleep again.
Need to pop to the bank today & then to the butchers, we've been invited to BIL's for a BBQ tomorrow around 5ish & previous experience tells us that it will consist of hot dogs & more hot dogs, with buns if we're very lucky, but probably without & with copious amounts of alcohol. So MIL is taking salad & we'll take jerk chicken, I'll marinade it overnight & cook it tomorrow morning so it just need re-heating when we get there.
The WM & DW are both on & it looks like I should get the washing dry outside, the fish have been fed, but I shall wait for hubby to wake up before I do breakfast for us both.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning :hello:

Glad your friend's op went well, Flutterby :)

I went to Countrywide to get an application form only to be told to write in with a CV. I said "oh sorry, I thought the ad said to ask in-store for a form". They said "yes it does, but the manager doesn't like forms and would rather have a letter" rolleyes.gif

We drove past a farm yesterday, there were a few barrels outside. It didn't look like a farm shop but we knocked on the door anyway to see if they made their own cider. They did, and they gave us some free perry and cider :D They said we could have one of their old barrels cheap cheap cheap, so we'll pick that up on monday. Mr tru is very excited, he wants to make his own smoker :D He wants to copy the River Cottage one. I'll take a pic of it tomorrow and post it on here.

The red mites are beating us, they're everywhere. We had to dust the chickens, I was hoping to avoid that. It seemed cruel, holding them upside down by the legs, but it didn't bother them and they looked quite funny :D

How much shredded paper can you have before it becomes a fire hazard? :D

  • Morning All,

Another lovely day here in Glasgow. :D

Ds1 is at football with OH, who has had about fifteen minutes' sleep, bless him. DS1 and I are tidying the house, and then I will need to get the straighteners out to his hair, he looks like Wurzel Gummage this morning :rotfl: he is off to his youth group when the other two come back, it feels really odd giving him so much freedom, its in the centre of the town, by a busy road, and the kids go out at lunchtime to buy a chippie! Not very OS at all, but he's been warned not to spend all his pocket money as I won't be topping it up, and he's taking his own drink to save him buying one there. Can't decide if I am being mean spirited about that or not, after all, its his first real taste of freedom :o

This afternoon I have a few chores to do, and somehow I managed to forget to buy tinned tomatoes, so need to go for them, but I will be taking limited cash to stop me spending. Need apples and grapes too. I have a wash on, and one on the line - when will it ever go down? I also need to take some photos of my ironing table, it's broken and as it's a Brabantia one it is under warranty. I have emailed them and just need to pass on photos now, to get the correct parts. Cannot fault the service from them so far.

Bitsy did your post arrive yet? I have still not sent the second part :o I will do that today!

Hugs to all (glad your friend is doing OK so far Flutterby)
