Pixie's Packed Lunch Challenge

Hi, I'm having a go. I have an all-day meeting with food tomorrow but it won't be nice, and I'll take my lunch in anyway. Thanks to someone posting the link to Just Bento, I dug out my laptop lunches box and got cooking. Yesterday I cooked 4 portions of rice and froze it 2 portions of tabbouleh, and some chicken (now frozen) and made a couple of salads that keep. I can't reheat anything so bento seems a good way to do it.
Today's lunch is teriyaki chicken, a cabbage salad thing with balsamic vinegar, tabbouleh with pomegranate seeds, some leftover frittata, strawberries and orange segments.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000 -
Hi Pixie, starting to take in my own lunches was one of the best things I did to reduce my outgoings. It improved my productivity too I think, as instead of feeling hungry and clock watching from about 11 onwards I can now get my lunch out and eat a bit! I'm quite boring and am happy with sandwiches or ryvita and a bit of fruit, but then I only need them two or three days a week as a part timer. Soup is a great way to fill up and have variety I think. I'm going to invest in a thermos (or similar) rather than a bento though, as it will keep the food hotter (I'm shortly moving offices and will no longer have microwave access).Old-Style Enthusiast :j0

my teens all take a packed lunch
in their Bento boxes too:D
they take leftovers mostly and LOVE them
their friends have all bought bentos so they can do the same
not bad considering they are 15 & 17 year olds
they like they can take seperate dressings for slald in the wee tiny bottles, no more soggy or flavourless salads
we dont plan ahead as there is always thought when making dinner how to adapt an extra bit from that for the next day0 -
i did post these on another thread
so apologies to those who have seen them:o

Well done Pixie!!
I always take in my lunch now - I joined the 'Save on work lunches' challenge for a few months to make sure I stuck to it and it worked!!
It helps that I can't really pop to town and grab a sandwich as I can't eat a lot of things that are found in store bought food, however I still managed to at one time!!!
And remember, it's not the end of the world if you fall off the wagon for a day or two - just remember all the money you've saved so far and you'll be clawing to get back on :rotfl:0 -

Split pea spicy soup with soda breadFeb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -
This is great timing, I have decided to try harder in this respect too.
Today I took a Tartex pate on homemade wholemeal bread, a banana, a peach and a pear (although the pear has not been eaten and might be used tomorrow).
Tomorrow will be spicy lentil soup (which I made this morning before work) with homemade bread and fruit.
I haven't got further than that yet, but I will!0 -
Today I had leftover spinach and cheese pasta with aubergine, yellow pepper and broccoli, a banana and homemade chocolate brownie
I finally gave in to temptation and ordered myself a red polka dot bento box!!!! Yay!0 -

How do u find that bento box? Saw it on ebay and considering getting one! Is it ok for soup/things in sauces? Or would I be better with a tupperwear type box. Nothing wrong with my lunch tubs really, but the bentos look nice!
Since startying my new job out side of the city centre at start of July I have had a packed lunch everyday :j I make soup, sandwiches some days, and if in a real rush cheese spread on toast! Along wiht fruit, snack a jack etc. Have saved loads.0
