My insurance says “you can legally drive a car without its own insurance providing that it is not owned or hired to you”

Just checking,because you have quoted your insurer as saying "without its own insurance".

Ahh, I see why you were asking now, sorry for the confusion......

To clarify, my DOC insurance cover doesn't say "without its own insurance", it is one of the majority of companies that doesn't say "the other car must be insured" either which in line with general insurance principles means they don’t care so I’m covered either way

As Dacouch says if they want to add a restriction then they need to spell it out clearly.

If it’s not specifically excluded then I assume it is included.
