Can't anyone hire a wheelchair without actually having walking problems? Therefore, the report would be useless.
As ONW has said its very expensive to hire a wheelchair abroad, no one will pay for one for an extended time if its not really needed, plus someone has to push you, that can be difficult depending on the person sitting in the wheelchair and the wheelchair wont be lightweigh because hire chairs need to be sturdy and suitable for anyone to use, the easy way for the bone idle is a scooter and there isnt much diffrance in the charges between the wheelchair and scooter.Oldernotwiser wrote: »Not cheap abroad - why would anyone bother?
Not a wheelchair but have you not seem the episode of Benidorm where the elderly woman gets a scooter because she says shes entitled to one just for being old?
I watched the clip because we were discussing it on a disability site, the shows not my cup of tea.0 -
Anyone can request assistance at an airport. you dont need to provide evidence of why either.Quite! I know of a 'lovely' chap who does this because it often means he jumps any queues (and he's a lazy !!!!! but that's a different story!)
The wheelchair services people at the London airports are always moaning to me how lots of people are abusing the service. I'm sure some of these may have hidden disabilities but by no means all! On the last trip, one person was trying to get in without a valid visa and probably thought this was a good route to take.As ONW has said its very expensive to hire a wheelchair abroad, no one will pay for one for an extended time if its not really needed, plus someone has to push you, that can be difficult depending on the person sitting in the wheelchair and the wheelchair wont be lightweigh because hire chairs need to be sturdy and suitable for anyone to use, the easy way for the bone idle is a scooter and there isnt much diffrance in the charges between the wheelchair and scooter.
Oi! I use a scooter abroad, bought a transportable one for that very purpose and always take it with me. Must admit that I hope the crutches sticking out of the bag puts me out of the 'bone idle' category.
Just in case you were wondering (some have)..... I'm a woman!0
