hot food buffet any suggestions

Options
Hi Ladies I am planning the buffet. The wedding is going to be in december so I am thinking of hot food. The caterer has suggested
jacket pots with a curry, beef guiness and mushroon casserole and veg chilli, with side salads, coleslaw etc, seasonal cheesecakes to follow, with waitress service. All for £12 per head which I thought was excellent. Tea and coffee I think would be good this time of year. Anyone else got any hot buffet suggestions?

We're having hot options on our buffet.

    We're having...

    Cheese and bacon potato skins
    Chinese spring rolls with dips
    Indian favourites with dips
    Potato wedges
    Home made onion rings
    Garlic bread
Chicken on skewers with satay sauce
    Sausage rolls

Along with sandwiches and other bits and bobs.

What about hot pot, or lasagne? They can be portioned easily.

deep fried breaded mushrooms with a dip.
  • For a wedding in April would you go hot and cold.... I'm seem to remember this year April was quite nice, but you can never be too sure.
I'm worried that a cold buffett of butties and chicken legs wont look that special
  • I like your options... I might include rice or something as some people find JP a bit heavy. And make sure your mushroom caserole is as plain and boring as possible to please the fussy people!

    Hi

    All sounds good to me.
One question I'd ask is seating arrangements. The reason I ask is will people be able to sit at a table with knife and fork ? If so jacket potato is great. If people may be standing and just using a fork then a jacket potato could be difficult to eat and rice or mash potato may be better.

A good pie will alway's goes down well.

Have you got many children coming ? If so do you know them ? Do you know that they'd eat what's on the menu ? Mine would but I've come across some really fussy so & so's in my time !
  • Get the Barbie out!!! one with a lid will do jerk chicken, and chicken with a BBQ sauce marinade, serve with rice'n'peas, or curried goat!! Nah only joking, although that would be my ideal, the original menu sounds good for the time of year, I would add grated cheese as an option for the jacket pots!!! And maybe one other dessert as an option, SOME people (my lovely hubby) hate cheesecake with a vengeance! Something like a chocolate cake/pud.

one thing to note, although alot of venues offer hot buffets, they dont usually have a hot table

they lay it out like a normal cold buffet, and expect people to eat it immediately. if you are late joining the queue, it will be cold by the time you get to it

ask the caterer/venue how they plan on keeping the food hot - most say they replenish straight from the kitchen as needed, but you will quite often see them add items from half empty dishes that have gone cold, to the newly brought out platters - if serving hot food, make sure that you are getting hot food, as otherwise you will have alot of wastage, as people wont touch the cold stuff

ive been to quite a few weddings lately where burgers, ribs, chicken/fish goujons, garlic bread/pittas and dips, french fries, etc. were being served in a buffet style, and most people took one look at the congealed food, and didnt bother eating. it was such a waste of the bride and grooms money

  • That is such a good point flea 72, I have been to various functions where the food you mentioned just sits there all night, the key is to find food that will be just as good hot or cold, or a way of doing stuff that can be microwaved OR a hog roast or something like tha.t
