i had a claim refused for exactly the same reason, if its the address im given by a buyer and its verified by paypal i never check.
My claim wasnt for a lost item it was for not showing that it had been delivered on recorded delivery on the website!!. I sent another one off for the same thingand got a reply that all though it didnt state on the wbsite it had arrived it had and therefore they didnt feel they need to compensate me! I think they just look for any excuse to opt out of refunding when they lose an item or dont do the service you pay them to do!0 -

That is actually quite common and I have seen a complaint go through to the highest levels about recorded not updating to delivered but where RM say it was.
The 'watchdog' authority say that as long as RM refund the 74p they are fully compliant with all the requirements and have fulfilled all their responsibilities. Basic mail merely has to get there to be compliant, the recorded part merely gets a sig. Therefore if it arrives without a signature (as all of mine do) then RM have done their job and merely have to give the wasted 74p back.
This is yet another reason why recorded is actually worse than just plain 1st or second class when using paypal. At least with 1st class you can reclaim your losses, with recorded you'd still lose a paypal chargeback and you can't reclaim more than 74p from RM in some cases.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I've had the non verified address bit before where the buyer worked at a school and the address was correct.
First time I tried to post, the PO wouldn't accept it because the address would not verify. I double checked with the buyer and the internet and found it was correct. Went back and the counter person overrode the error and it was posted and arrived OK. The buyer said he got this all the time buying off the net because the school had two postcodes.
Royal Mail are trying it on - you've posted it and have a receipt. You've got all the eBay and Paypal paperwork to back it up so they can't dispute the value either. I suppose it's possible he's got the item and is saying he hasn't, but you have to take him at face value and assume he is telling the truth.
Go back to them and complain in the strongest terms - even if the postcode was wrong, it will still have ended up in the correct sorting office and you would have thought they would have been able to use local knowledge to deliver it. Even if they were being bloody minded and returned it to sender, it would have got back to you.
At the end of the day they've accepted an item with a wrong address despite not only having a system to check it, but being the people who actually control allocation of postcodes. They've then lost it somewhere in their system and the even when you put a return address on the parcel, it hasn't come back to you. One error compounds another and if I were a judge, it would be the fastest case I ever heard.0 -
Can I just check then - if it says "Address validated? N" on the proof of postage, does this mean that RM would reject a lost parcel claim? As my local PO has just "upgraded" to a new system and now ALL my standard parcels show as address not validated  I've discussed it with the postmistress but she says she doesn't know how to get it to check now. (Interested to hear how OP is getting on too). They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

My PO now issues receipts with "Address validated? N".
They assure me that it will not affect claims and that it is not now routine to check postcodes. In the past the system often failed to validate addresses even when I had checked them on RM before sending.0 -

Ah, thank you, that's a relief. I have emailed RM to ask them (and get a reply in writing) so will post the response too once I get it.
It's no use asking the postmistress, as she often swivels the screen round to face me and asks which button to press next :rotfl: She's lovely, but honestly, it's a good job I'm not in a hurry most days. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -

This didn't go special, it went standard. You should add the return address to anything you post.
As for the OPs situation, the seller could actually have the parcel back, so it will never be returned. A call to the local delivery office may throw up some more info, but this far down the line may be too late.0 -

I have contacted them recently with a simple question about delivery of a recorded letter I sent. Only had 1 irrelevant reply in 3 weeks.0 -
I received a reply today which states:I can confirm that you are covered for loss, damage and delay with a
Certificate of Posting. This is even if the address has not been validated
but does exist according to our Postal Address File. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0
